Don't like stretched tyres, very low profile tyres & I think a car CAN be too low. Perhaps I'm odd.

Sorry for bumping an old thread, but I really think this thread needs a comeback with more pics as I am now 17 and thinking that a 1600 victor would make me an ideal first car ;D just in need of inspiration and mojo ;D

I think it was this months issue, but Practical Performance Car has a beautiful FD on the cover with a V8 in. I didn't buy the magazine as I find it an irritating rag to read but its a superb car, I've seen it for real and it rocks. Be aware that the 1600 Victor will probably cost about the same to insure as the 2000 (check this out first) and has a number of differences: 1600 has drum brakes, no servo. 2000 has disc brakes and a servo. 1600 usually has 3 speed manual, 2000 usually has 4 speed manual all synchro 1600 has no anti roll bars. 2000 has front anti roll bar. VX 4/90 etc have rear one too. 1600 has a dynamo. 2000 has an alternator 1600 has a crappy Zenith carb which usually leaks and runs bad. Later 2000 has a better Stromberg 1600 has bench seats front & rear which many find uncomfortable. 2000 has "bucket style" seats 1600 is often so low geared you won't get more than 55 out of it without going deaf. 1600 uses more fuel than 2000. The 1600 Super with the higher ratio diff is a better bet, most had 4 speed manual and such. But they are still a little slow... disclaimer! you could special order anything you liked off Vauxhall so a 2000 with 3 speed or a 1600 with an alternator and disc brakes is possible. Also people add stuff from one model to another so you'll find some right mish-mashes. You should also be aware the reason I stopped owning and running these was due to the fact that parts are getting very hard to get for them. And expensive. They are fantastic looking cars, and a well sorted 2000SL or VX 4/90 is a great car to drive. I have had 18 of them IIRC over the years. have a few random pics:  ^^^ there is a readers rides on this one with its current owner  ^^^ this ended up with a 2.9 Ford V6 in it  ^^^ A mate's 3.3 Estate  ^^^ this one was my daily and is now owned by a mate who restored it back to stock  ^^^ I let this one die, sadly. it had a 2300 and overdrive in it. Was a great driver.  It got exported to Ireland last I heard  ^^^ this is the one I spent a fortune on! I got a full Ventora running gear in it and a tuned Chevy 350 V8 in it  ^^^ my old Ventora. Pic taken with new owner. I owned that car like 10 years.  ^^^ Sweet V8 FD I had loads more in my photobucket, not sure where they have gone? I'll load more later. |
