well after having owned a ProStar 190 before . . but got annoyed by the lack of room . . . I bought this '96 205 from a Wakeboardschool . . they did get new boats and sold this one with close to 3000h on it . . . I knew that maintenance and care was never a big concern and I probably will have to rebuild some stuff . . the price was more than fair (it was dirt cheap . . to be honest) . . so it traded hands . . .
first I had to get rid of the purple and green (what a combo) stripes on the outside . . (thankfully on the interior it's just white and purple . . I can live with that) so I just put a big white Sticker on top of the stripes . . and I think it looks fanfriggintastic ;D
I did some basic maintenance and went to the lake . . . ahhhh . . . sun fun . . girls in bikinis . . waterskiing . . wakeboarding . . . what else can you ask for?
but at the end of the season . . it made a big "bang!!" . . . the engine stopped suddenly . . and wouldn't turn anymore . . oh!!oh!!
I got towed to the harbor and I had a quick look . . took all the spark plugs out . . and didn't like what I saw . . one of the spark plugs was smashed badly . .
I took the boat to my workshop and took the head off . .
a quick look at the head revealed the problem . . one of the valve seats got loose . . autch!
so you can imagine how the piston looks . . uuuh . . nice!
well . . I did a few phone calls (actually wanted to rebuilt the engine . .) and found a brand new Indmar 350 with vortec heads . . they guy had it in stock for over 4 years . . so he was happy to get rid of it for little money ..
yay! . . with the vortec heads it's even the better base as the normal non-vortex engine I had in there before . . and it was way cheaper than rebuilding the old one ..
a quick phone call to my Mastercraft dealer of trust . . I knew that eveytning from the old motor should work on there . . . anyway . . did a quick test fit of the TBI throttle body as soon as the engine was here . .
perfect!
took the old one out . . . empty "engine bay"
more "old" parts attached . .
including engine mounts and transmission . .
old wreck . .
put the new one back in . . got a reprogrammed ecu to work perfect with the Vortec heads . . so it should even put out a bit more ponys than the old one . .
done ;D
that all happened last winter . . so I already enjoyed a season of fun on the water . . without any problems . . . good stuff!
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
BTW: that's the reason I bought the Dodge ;D
