Hello! I thought I'd do a topic for some particularly mad futuristic retro Japanese dashboards, usually when you think Japanese 80's dash you think of some kind of plain white text on black, analogue stuff. But top trim and luxury cars in Japan in the 80's got some of the maddest dashboards ever, rivalling Jackie Chan's Cannonball Run cars for gizmos and flashing lights! Get a look at these boys! Nissan March (Micra) Turbo Note the graph on the steering wheel. ;D But I love the Knight Rider diagonal numbers speedo too. Nissan Leopard The temp gauge is ace! And could that be a shifter light?! Toyota CROWN Not quite the dash but isn't that great? A compass!! You can imagine it spinning round loads when you go round car parks. I saved the best til last. I'm pretty sure the accel gauge is a proper screen!! Haha look 2100rpm! You can imagine it flickering into life when you turn the key like an old 80's TV set, at least that's what I'd like to think. I can think of a few more like the Celica Supra digital one and some nice European ones like the Astra GTE but let's see what you can come up with. ;D

Fugging brilliant! Superb! That graph on the middle of the steering wheel is class, i'd love to have that feature on me 929 wagon showing the 90hp at 4000 revs or whatever it is.

Superb thread! Fantastic pics! I always wondered how hard it'd be take an MG Maestro digidash and stick it in another car... I always wanted one in my Mini years ago...

Well, if I ever get cut up by a non-indicating Piazza, I'll be understanding.

my carlton gsi3000 has a very 80's digital dash, not dissimilar from the Monza dash pictures in pheonix's post. There's a selector button to switch from British mph and gallons to European kph and litres which is pretty cool

I haven't got a digi pic of it (1989 when made) but in the Westfield that I built with my mate, apart from using a dolomite round clock for the indicators/warning lights, we made a fibre optic display with fibres running to all the lights on the car, then if a bulb was out, it wouldn't light the corresponding light on the display! I'll have to find a pic and scan it.

my mate had one of the Maestro VP's with the digital dash *and* the voice synthesizer..... he crashed it in a carpark and the last thing it ever uttered was a warning about low oil pressure
