Hi folks, heres my other bus, its a LexArse LS400 - 4.0 V8, Auto with sporty and traction buttons. All the toys under the sun, even elec hedrests and steering wheel, holographic dials, Air con, sunroof, autochanger, blah blah blah. Its as smooth as you like and pulls like a train - you cant even hear the engine running when youre inside. IT's all black which I'm told is a very rare model (normally silver or gunmetal on bottom half) It had gold badges when I got it - again this means it a good un supposedly 220kmiles, drives like it done 1/4 of that - faultless except needs 2 LEDs in the Air Con buttons on the dash. Oh and has a westfalia 'hidden' towbar with twin elecs which i don't think has been used - i have (had) a receipt from Toyota for £620 for this fitted! Had full & complete lexus/toyota history (2 folders full) with all books etc - but i cant find em for poop I've had the rear lights tinted, painted the gold badges gunmetal (they were awful in my eyes) and modified the grille (looked like an old chip cutter lol) when I first got it: rear lights done: you cant actually see through the grille that much in real life - just the camera picking up the sun shining through it:

Tempted by LS400s - but the "2+2" rear seats put me off.

Love these. What do you mean about 'holographic' dash?

you cant see the dash with igniniton off - and the warning lights (oil, ignition etc) are projected on the covering plastic in some form of witchcraft LOL like this: uk.youtube.com/watch?v=MQrKfGN30kQwhat do you mean by 2+2 rear seats? I thought 2+2 was tiny coupes with an excuse for a rear seat - the LS400 is like a barker & stonehouse finest back there

They are the same in my GS300. I'm not really feeling the tinted rears or the grille, a bit 'Halfords' for a big luxo barge, but if you like it, fair play.

Were the gold badges some kind of original option? I just thought they were a kind of Maxpower-bling add-on.
Nice car, I'd LOVE one of these. I like that shot with the grille-less front. Well'ard.

don't the gold badges mean it has every feasable extra, its like the upper model rather than the silver badges with mean more of a standard option without as many gizmos or so i thought?

They used to have a special kit at some dealers, especially for dipping and electro-coating the badges. It used real gold apparently and was under lock and key most of the time...

So what do you call this, then? Fear look? I like it!
I personally wouldn't have tinted the rears, but I dig the overall vibe. What have you got planned for it in terms of rims?

I'd forgotten about "moider" look... ;D I'm with the OE look side here, fair play if you like it but keeping the badges, lights and grille stock while applying tender loving thwacks with the stick would have made it look harder than the cosmetic mods achieve IMHO... I know appearance is very subjective so apologies if I've been rude in saying that Some neon underlights would finish it off a treat FTW

Lol, i basically changed the bits that I personally hated about the car. The car is all black - yet to me the rear lights were massive, and stuck out like a sore thumb being the size they are and all different colours. I had them tinted at a bodyshop rather than use the tinty curse word from halfords. I did request for a 'light dusting' of paint - but came back as dark as the ace of spades, ho hum. Again the grille is something i personally hated - it just looked SO out of place, the pics don't do the current grille any justice - it honestly isnt as bad in the flesh. Again the gold badges made the car look like some sort of drug dealer/arabic oil salesman - they just had to go! I think the gold badge version means its got more goodies, not that i've looked at any other LS400s in great detail - but i don't know what the difference is. The plans were a good old chop chop, and some TSW Holsten alloys or other flat, dished wheel - but i'm currently thinking of selling up... i use the van for work now - so the lexi just sits un-used

I love the LS400....I've always wanted to tool around in one. I reckon you've done the right thing with the badges - gold isn't my scene and reminds me too of drug dealers etc... The grille I'm not too sure on, but reckon it would look a lot better in the flesh if the 'innards' aren't visible (as you've said) - combined with some stick and apt rims, the grille look will most likely work really well. Rear lights - sorry but personally think they are too max powarr! Never been a fan of dark tinted lights. I know what you mean about all the colours going on with such a big light cluster and I am pleased that you've avoided the temptation to look into Lexus lights (I know it is a Lexus....but you know what I mean?) but I think something more 'subtle' could have worked in your favour - like tinting the indicators/reverse in red to give a more luxo barge look: I'm looking forward to seeing this dropped and rimmed.....and PLEASE don't sell it. Mod & enjoy at the weekends - that's what it's all about if you have a 'daily' as well.

Nice LS! I love these things, they're so big and ugly but I like them!
Good call losing the gold badges. Whether they signify a top spec or are just someones idea of a classy touch, they look gash.
I have to say though I'm not feeling the lights or the grille. I agree that the lights are huge, and look nasty with all the colours going on so I see why they had to change. I'd have gone all red maybe - a little more subtle? Better yet, lose the inner units entirely! Bit of smoothing and working the missing bulbs in to the outer units (they're big enough!) would look good!
The grille may look ok once theres rims and low. looks a bit odd on a mostly standard car.
Don't mean to hate on you though dude, just some ideas!

indeed all input taken, i myself rarely criticise any mods on a car unless they're truly gash or had no thought process whatsoever - the lights were supposed to be marginally darkened - thats what id asked for anyways The sale may not be going ahead - i'm having to spend on it for mot (tyres & bushes) so will prob just keep her. The other plans were to get all the chrome window surrounds & bumper strip colour coded black?? any thoughts on that? If the car does stay, the grille will be getting some 'finer' plastic mesh in rather than the chicken wire already in, i don't really know what else i can do with the front end to be honest Would you's suggest a spring chop or lowered/uprated springs - only problem is the lowering springs cost more than the cars worth!! If a chop - how many coils? Thanks for all the input - i'm suprised anybody even commented, i thought it would have got no interest whatsoever

That rear seat just ain;t shaped for 3 people
