Anyone who been driving recently must have noticed that at xmas the fuel price fell back to a sensible level and now they have crept back up In just 14 days Morrsions have increased diesel by over 10p its now back to £1 per litre The cause is the dollar/pound ratio ,but i sense the oil companies know we are having a bad winter and are having the uk over yet again ! Anyone else think the same. My Dad reckons most of us wont be able to run cars by 5 years time ,its already being noted that traffic is down from 2007-2008 since the summer. The goverment want to get their emissons targets before the EU fine us for having the worst congested and fumed up roads in europe .

Any particular reason why he thinks we won't be able to run cars by 5 years time? I suspect he might be overreacting just a tad.

His mate works in local goverment and mps behind the scenes are told they want us all to use public transport They are slowly very slowly turning the screw (as usual ) on the motorist ,hoping we don't notice .(All for tax gains to pay off the millions he keeps giving to hopeless causes because we are in europe ) The real deal is we are in a recession and its not getting any better ,i for one expect fuel prices to rise above the prev high because there is no one to stop it .Gordon Brown has no say . Amercias in the a recession too there is no balancing act in the money system .

the only way to make this "downturn" any worse is to stick fuel prices up. we "the motorist" pay tax thru the nose for the privelege of running a car. they get more in taxes than any fine the euro muppets could fine us. the government know that.
any way why fine us?? isnt china/india producing more pollution in a week than the uk does in a year?? i think their sights are a little off!!!
what was shells profits from 2008? £22billion did i read somewhere?? id be very surprised if fuel gets up to what it was in the summer. people are already calling for a windfall tax on them...... I'm sure shell doesnt want that.........
the government should know something....... we love our cars, most of us wont get out of them without a fight. and i for 1 would rather pull out my fingernails with some pliars than get on a bus!

The real deal is we are in a recession and its not getting any better ,i for one expect fuel prices to rise above the prev high because there is no one to stop it .Gordon Brown has no say . Amercias in the a recession too there is no balancing act in the money system . Recessions normally cause fuel prices to fall as demand for oil drops. Price is probably going up at the moment because of 3 things - 1) The economies of the OPEC countries took a huge hit when the oil prices dropped so rapidly so they have been trying to increase the price a bit by reducing the amount they produce. 2) Oil prices normally rise during winter, especially if it is a cold one in the USA, as more fuel is needed for heating and power. 3) Oil is sold in dollars, if the pound falls against the dollar the cost of oil for us goes up even if the price stays the same. The last point is probably the most important one

The only reason fuel has gone up is because Opec reduced production a couple of months back. They told us then it would be going up. The "cheaper" fuel we are getting is due to the fact it was bought before this. TBH I'm surprised its taken this long to start creeping up again. However if we were to buy our oil solely from North Sea oil and not an Opec run supplier we wouldnt be subject to these costs....But don't even get me on that one
