I bought this to go in the BX but I've decided not to, I'm happy with rubber mats! It's rather nice. £15 + postage. I live in Manchester if a local boy/girl wants to pick up...

Is it a chavtastic bit of bling or the real McCoy?
Anotherwords, how stiff is it? Could I use it in the rally car?

I see what you mean! Despite it being chavtastically shiny, I should think it would be easily stiff enough for competition. The footplate is pretty thick.

Can you measure it for me? I need to fit it in the new rally car which is a Rover 100, so I don't know how narrow the footwell is...

At its widest point it's 472mm (between the edges), then obviously it tapers to the bed where you put your feet and this is about 380mm wide. Top to bottom it measures about 320mm. I've got it back from my parents' garage today and I'm sure it would withstand a fair bit of abuse.

The PM didn't arrive, but now worries!
I'm collecting the rally car tonight, so I'll measure it over the w/e and let you know.

Go on, you KNOW it makes sense!!!! sooooooooooooo tempting but i need to get it on the road before i start getting too silly with it ;D it'll have the swaymar built essex, 5 speed of some sort(prob type9 to start with), scimitar axle(have you seen what mk1 capri atlas axles make?!?!?), it's fully caged out which will get added to with some extra bars and a few other period bits and pieces. and then when i'm feeling brave enough to put them on there some 8x13 8spoke wellers ;D

What's the 'insperation'?
Touring cars (or whatever they called them in the 1970's)? Rallying?(was the Capri even used as a works car?) Or rally cross?

well, it was raced in the post-historic class up to 2002(got stickers in the window from spa and scrutineers tickets), currently trying to chase down some history or old photos of it, got a couple people asking about for me.
but that was before i got it, my plans are road/track day weapon obviously driven sensibly on the road but an animal on the track, or something. i will be doing a readers rides thread on it when i start getting stuck in
