On both MGBs the stalks are playing up. Ages ago, the Sebring stalk did work, and now the lights are back in I got an opportunity to test it. Basically, it works on high beam if the headlamps are on, but if you wish to flash somebody, then it doesn't work. It is exactly the same problem on the white car too except it's stalk feels quite solid (I presume that's been changed at some point.
On the brown car, I originally bought another stalk (secondhand) as the original felt very sloppy and worn (although it worked!). When I changed the stalks over, the main beam light came on as I pulled back on the stalk, but only very dimly, and with no flashing beams.
On both, I've sprayed switch cleaner, and got some P180 sandpaper out on the contacts that meet in order to allow you to flash someone. However, there has been no change .
Any idea what is wrong at the stalk end of these things, or do you reckon it is something else? On the brown car, I have renewed the bullet connections at the front, as the lights were initially quite iffy due to old bullet connectors.
I would get another stalk for both, but at nearly £60 each, it's not viable at the moment if I can get the old ones working.
Why couldn't BL use relays like normal people, instead of having alot of current going through the stalk?
Apparently I have been told that it is not an MOT failure, but I am not so sure, considering the info seems a little gray.
