Hello there I own this lovely specimen of a 1972 Fastback: I want to make it nicer. But i have no imagination. I also have very little cash but that should hopefully not stop me. The car itself is 100% solid, has a spare pair of doors without one-piece windows, has a fine fine motor of unknown capacity and the MoT has only just expired - it's driven 100 miles and been dryish-stored since the last one. Rewiring should soon be underway and i managed to find a crack-free dash top for a tenner The only other thing I have for it is a pair of these: which i intend to recover, as they're currently wooly and torn. How can you help? With a bit of inspiration! The car really is a blank canvas... it just needs paint and an interior. Post some pics of example themes and with a bit of luck something will 'click' and it'll end up a nice, unique motor

White, with big black plastic arches rivetted on, with gold-centred superwide alloys. Sort of J-racer look - I haven't got any pics on this machine, but might be able to find some later. Abit like this: only fasty shaped ;D

Off-white/mushroom paint. Deep gloss. Chrome Teledials. Retrim the seats to black leather outers with a cream/black houndstooth pattern on the centres. Black leather everywhere else. Stretched rubber.
*n Sorted.

Something you don't see on aircooled dubs, unless anyone has pics that'll prove me wrong!

Indeed.
I'm thinking of taking elements from the watercooled scene and bringing them back to aircooled...going against the flow.
Remember that American VR6-powered Jetta? I'm thinking of that...But aitcooled.

Something you don't see on aircooled dubs, unless anyone has pics that'll prove me wrong! Is it because air-cooled dubbers are not insane?

its more dangerous having the massive amount of negative camber of the rear of a beetle than it is to have streched tires, will also have a much more dangerous effect on handling. Not insane, more genius. Its a fine line!

i forgot to say... wheels are already sorted. I have some magnesium wheels, as demonstrated by Kinky Mick's Happy Wheel Shack: however mine are pretty much in the condition shown on the front one, and i'd be interested to see how they look fully polished, or semi-polished with very shiny highlights. are those at the back polished or just scabby?? can you polish magnesium rims? whatever... they're 5.5" wide so some stretchage should bepossible, they have some 155's on the front which look moderately stretched but they're tall, 65's i think. penski... i'm loving the colour ideas though. i'm also thinking big shine and much gloss is next years ratlook..... i keep thinking of more ideas! i have a full set of black doorcards but was thinking of vinylpainting those, and the dashtop, to match the seats if they end up non-black.

Like those wheels especially the black and polished look. I reckon cream and chrome then, bit like that Karmann Ghia in readers rides.

at the moment they're a very dark metallic grey and - well, were - polished. i suspect two years in a barn may have dulled them do we like black wheels on creamy cars or shall i go for much shinyness and polish the lot? darren - re the roof spoiler. it's a new German design, it has variable downforce by virtue of you can stick your arm out and wind the window down
