We have foggy nostalgic moments of our old cars.....I was chatting to people recently and recalled the days of my old type 1 1302. The car wasn't bad - it was reliable enough, its was just a bad one that had a chequered and tough life before I got it. I had a Simca 1100 and chuvitte van for a short time - both were deplorable in terms of reliability and rust but I miss them.

1986 Ford Escort Popular Plus
1300cc non-cvh type. Rattley, noisey, incredibly slow, handled like a drunk slug. Always refused to start when the ambient moisture level of a morning was anything greater than 0.01%.... 4-speed gearbox was like stirring porridge. On top of all this the car had been 'customised' by my brother to look like an XR3i (in the dark, if you squinted a bit). The mirrors were 'colour coded' using tippex, and the RS wheels made it impossible to park..... This meant that every twit on the road thought you'd want to engage in a 'traffic light grand pricks'.
The only redeeming feature was the hoofing stereo. Which was promptly stolen.
After three months I cut my losses and sold it to my brother-in-law.
The only vehicle I've ever made a significant loss on.

I've never really had a bad car - I have quite low expectations of my cars so I don't tend to be disappointed! The Pony was dull, but it worked - even if it was only on 3 cylinders most of the time. Never broke down... I just can't think of any cars I've had that make me think "Jesus, glad I got shut of that!"

I saw this thread and the worst car I could think of that I’ve owned, (or maybe it was me that was pwn3d!) was a B-reg Mk3 escort 1100cc K*nt engine. Underpowered, noisy, crummy handling, and absolutely rotten to the very core at about 9 years old - rear chassis, inner wings and sills, the lot. Disgusting!

My worst ever car, by a long way, was a 1984 MG Metro. Stinky in absolutely every single way. When I lived in Cape Town I had a truely abysmal squit brown Colt 4 door saloon of some description that was also rubbish, apart for the fact that it was unmercifully abused for a whole year and was utterly reliable.

Beige MK1 fester. 950 popular plus. Never failed to start, never broke down, didn't have a single straight panel on it. The most horrible car I've ever driven, reliable but horrible.
Some git nicked the starter motor and shagged the wiring loom in the process. Took great pleasure in watching it get crushed

Morris Ital 2.0 HLS auto.... Bought on a whim as I fancied another auto to replace my Triumph 2500 TC, it was horrible... seized front suspension caused it to wander like a wandery thing... the big ends rattled on starting, so I decided to get some new shells, this involved a short trip on the motorway, during which it decided to go onto 3 cylinders, and it started pi$$ing down with rain... as I'd only just bought it my tools were still in the other car, and it had no outside mirror, so when I periodicaly pulled on to the hard shoulder, I had to stick my head out of the window to pull back out, reving the nuts off it and dropping it into 'drive' ... when a lorry went past it was as though someone had chucked a bucket of water into the car, and being August I was only wearing a T-shirt. I eventualy gave up on the shells and limped to the village where my parents live, where it promptly ran out of petrol... Sold it after a week, never did fit the new shells... only threw them away a few weeks ago when clearing the loft out....

... the only injury I sustained was a bumped head when I let the seatbelt of without realizing the car was upside down and that's not really the car's fault.

I will join in with everyone else. MK3 scrote (W reg i think) 1100 xflow engine. Rear wheel steer thanks to broken rear tie bars. Bought from the auctions for £120 had it three month and then scrapped it when I found it was only the carpet holding it together ;D. Loads of oversteer in the snow though which was quite a laugh. Normally when there is a thread about cars you have owned and disliked I always mention my vulva 345 but now I only seem to have good memories about it

Worst car by far was a citroen xm. I aquired it free of charge with a light whack on the front when i worked in a salvage yard. I repaired it with free bits so it wasnt exactly pricey but once i got it on the road everything started to go wrong. The aircon packed up during a two hour journey on what was probably the hottest day of the year. The abs light came on everytime you touched the brake pedal. The on board display used to make up faults that didnt exist, it was constantly telling me i had no brake lights when i obviously did. The heated seats used to come on at will. The headlights used to pack up on a whim and required you to stop, get out and give them a hefty whack to get them going again. In the end I scrapped it and bought my camaro, and there ended my experiments with modern cars. Been driving round in old stinkers ever since ;D

mk4 cortina that was so rusty the shell twisted on cornering and the rear doors popped open, ended up with a bungee strap across the rear seat to hold them closed.the drivers seat base collapsed so cushion after cushion were nicked from my mums living room and wedged in the hole, and then the engine started using more oil than petrol in a james bond stylee (BIG clouds of smoke out the back)so was swapped for a 2.0 pinto out of a capri that was even rustier.so now i had a car that was pretty quick and seriously unsafe.the car eventually got towed away after my mate the mot tester refused to test the car.

a reg sierra 1.6gl in blue metallic. the single most hatefull car ive bought. never ever started when asked always had to be parked on a hill or pushed to start the minger. my dad borrowed it then spilt a bag of sage and onion mix and 4 pints of milk in it. in the summer.wheres the vomit smiley. terminal rust in almost every panel and very "intersting" handling due it being clapped out. lost interst in it after buying an audi 80(loved that).so i left it parked up with about enuf gas for a hundred yards. then someone nicked it. the only time ive ever liked travellers ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
