As some RR'ers know, I've recently got hold of my dad's '94 BMW 525TD. He never got on with it and when the gearbox started acting up, he decided to get rid.
Anyway, I've been pondering what to do with it, and have come to the conclusion that the e34 is a REALLY hard car to modify well. Any work done to it risks making it look like some methodone addict has spent his child benefit cheque on a load of tat and glued it on.
Slamming it wouldn't work I don't think, because 1) I think it would look wrong, and 2) the BMW is a nicely balanced, well handling machine and making it scrape it's sump would ruin the dynamics totally. I'm a fan of the slam, but only when applied sympathetically.
So a -40 or -60 drop would look good I think. Not too hardcore, and will improve the car's handling and looks.
I'm also thinking about wheels - some large diameter alloys would look great I think. 16 or 17in, maybe later OEM BMW rims although OEM + BMW = £££ in my mind.
To make this thread more interesting, here's some pics I plucked from the web...
^ I like the lights on this car. Bit concerned about how legal smoked headlights are in the UK though... any ideas?
^ The de-chromed look looks great. Mine already has the side window chrome deleted, but I may do the front kidney grille too.
^ I like these wheels! What are they, anyone know? BMW Walletbusters is my guess.
Under the lid I've got some plans to squeeze some more ponies out of the engine. Intercooler is first on my list (the TD doesn't have one) along with tweaking the boost and a few other simple things. I'll stop when it gets expensive! ;D
If anyone has any ideas, suggestions or pics - post em up! I don't have any pics of my car yet as it's pig filthy!
