Hi all New here and need some help with my car. It done 35,000 kms from new and was owned by one lady owner. Due to the lack of use the original carburetor is having trouble and causing backfiring etc. Was told a weber will bolt onto the standard manifold but want to know what kind and if its true etc. Its also been having trouble with brakes and steering but thats to be expected with an older car, and is getting sorted so thats sweet. Thanks a lot and have some pics.

OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG Sorry, I seem to have 'OMG'd myself. Simply stunning. I could offer you some half-truths and hearsay as advice, but it's probably best to wait for DaveRapid.

FAB car,,,,,,,,,,i totaly love these (not that i'm biased)
basicaly an estelle 105/120 inlet manifold will allow weber fitment as replacements,,,,,,30bdic and the 32dgr,,,,with abit of modification to the throttle spindle cable link,a 32dir/32dgms (too big carbs will result in horrible low speed fuel economy)
avoid the wrap around float bowl versions as they have a different stud spacing (32/34 dtml springs to mind and any ford vac secondary carbs with wraparound float bowl are to be avoided)
single choke carbs like solex 32's of renualt 5's and little fiats will fit with a simple adapter plate

8-)Stunningly beautiful car! Will you give it to me? ;D Whereabouts are you from? :)Welcome to Retro Rides. You really ought to join the Owners' Club too! hint hint. ;D I personally would strip and clean your original carb before replacing it as that is most likely all it needs. The most usual fault apart from the need for a clean is failure of the O rings on the adjuster screws. A Skoda Estelle/Rapid Weber conversion kit could be fitted, but there would be issues with the air filter fitting as the S series carbs were a different height to Estelle/Rapid ones. Not impossible, but not 100% straightforward. However, before doing anything to the fuel system check out the ignition system as a fault there is more likely to cause backfiring. Coils are known to fail on these cars. It's also important to check the valve clearances, often forgotten and quite influential in how these old engines run, especially if the clearances are too tight. Skudders, another RR and SOCGB member, is more experienced with the S series cars than me, I'm more used to the later Estelle/Rapid range. [fairly similar in a lot of respects, but quite a few differences apart from the obvious visual ones]. Good luck, and keep us posted!

Thanks for all the friendly replies. I'm from New Zealand and there are very few older Skoda's around. I'm 16 and keen on cars but don't really have anyone to teach help me. So i have a friendly mechanic that helps me out for relative cheapness so thats helpful with a skoda! He took apart the carb and has done the best he can but he would like a rebuild kit but could not source one.
He tries to guide me through some things and thought it was amazing i couldnt get the hub off to replace the wheel cylinder until he tried. I took a half ton of force to get it off!
Merry Christmas to all and i'll try to get my car sussed soon

Skudtastic! Once you've got the car running properly you're only a day's fiddling away from having an immensely groovy ride. olt on some cool Beetle rimas and remove some suspension coils and you'll be the coolest kid on the block. A friend of mine had one on 15" ATS Classics and I've had a couple of Coupes:

Will keep my eye out for some four stud beetle rims but i don't think they come up for sale too often. Cam, do you have a number for the guy in Dannevirke? I would like some parts but live in Whangarei so its a fair distance to travel to get there.

That's a lovely little car.
Good luck with it. They're quite simple to work on and a good basis to turn on too!

Got my car back a while ago and have been driving around a bit and its been awesome fun and reliable as well. But I've got a problem. I cant get the fuel cap off to refill it! its always given me problems so i refilled it at home from a can ( rather then spending ten mins at the petrol station trying to get it off) anyway this time i cant get it off at all, there seems to be a knack to it that i just don't have, so was hoping that someone has experiance with the mysterey that is my skoda fuel cap. Thanks for your help (ps if you want anymore photos just ask and i can put some up for you.)
