Epic thread this. Just read it from the very first page. Awesome awesome car, always loved the capri and I'm a big fan of the ca18 engines, having had an S12 and an S13. Lots of ups and downs you've had and I admire your stick at it mentality. Loved the part of the story surrounding getting it sorted for your wedding, top quality mates right there. 😀
To chip my 2 bobs worth in regarding diffs, welded on a daily is definitely not ideal. My S12 had a welded diff and asides from every slow speed parking manoeuvre being an exercise in clutch destruction, high speeds were fecking frightening, especially in the wet. Definitely worth holding out for an lsd. 👍
Anyways, epic build bud, keep it up. 😀

Running 265/60/15s at the mo - reckon they'll do the trick? Or is the size hurting the times? Manual's all part of the fun for me! I think do things in stages that way you can get the enjoyment of incremental improvements and you need to outlay a pile of cash straight away. Fit a decent lsd first And see how you go. I would also fit a tailshaft loop. Remember if or when you put slicks on they will find the weakest link in the drivetrain and with it being a manual it will be harsh on the entire drivetrain. When you cross the line (which I assume your in 4th) where are you rpm wise? Near redline or well below peak power? Sorry mate, I missed your post! I actually can't quite remember what gear over the line... possibly the top of 3rd? I have loads of GoPro vids I my work computer I'll have to dig out and post on here. I like the idea of incremental improvements.😊 👍 What's a tailshaft loop?

Deffo worth fitting one if you start chasing the numbers your car is capable of.

Owner of a bluebird zx turbo with a CA18det powerhouse and grew up around various different capri's as a kid so this interests me a lot. Just to clarify though, a pulsar gti-r turbo is a T25G in stock form. The daddy would be a T28R ballbearing turbo from an s15. What snail is on there currently?

I think I'd like to fit one to be honest, I do worry a bit about that; the power delivery is pretty violent so I can only imagine the forces going through the drivetrain..

Quick update: a little mooch through my thread reveals I fitted heavy duty TCAs almost exactly 2 years ago.... and they're goosed again!
I've lost count of the amount of TCAs I've fitted over the years. It's definately at least 4 sets. 5 if you include the time I just fitted poly bushes in the standard arms... seems a little excessive?!

What's going on them? I just fitted the Rally Design HD ones to mine, with polys in, and looking at the angle that the ARB ends up at with the anti-dive kit, I can see how the bushes would be stressed on a lowered car. Saying that, I can't really work out how anyone could live with a car much lower than mine (-1"F & -1.5"R), as I clang it off all sorts of lumps and bumps as it is. Not a problem you have with the big rear end on yours I suppose?
Or is it the balljoints dying? I'm beginning to think compression struts might firm things up and put less strain on the various bushes up there, and they're not the biggest ballache to fit.
When I got mine I spent an age trying to cure the classic ford wobble-under-breaking thing, as it tried to shake all my fillings out if I used the brakes over 30mph. I changed absolutely everything, and had got to the point of considering buying new alloy hubs, but accidentally cured it by cleaning upi the face of the old hubs on a lathe while fitting decent studs in place of the badly hacked-off ones that the old owner thought were a good idea.

Those propshaft loops are compulsory in nz for certified engine swaps. Good thing too. Easy enough, cheap to fit and we'll worth if you see what happens without one when a propshaft fails at the front.
If you have a two piece prop you have to fit two loops, one for each front section within 200 mm back from the front universal joints.

Well - I've just let the MoT and insurance lapse. I'm going to sit on it for a bit, with the plan of bringing it back out next year with an LSD and a prop loop. I might throw some MORE paint over it as well.
I've experimented with: matt black aerosols = good finish if patient with prep, but porous. satin black aerosols = similar, slightly more resilient but a nightmare to match chalk board paint and a roller.. = non porous, but fades within weeks. Also, streaky dodgy finish with the roller! The car is basically grey/white at the moment!
The bodywork is far from concourse...or even staight! So I don't fancy laying some lovely gloss paint on it only for it to highlight all of the imperfections. Realistically, at some point I'll probably have to redo the arches, so an expensive paint job would be pointless. I might just leave it as is, or experiment with something else. I've seen some good Plastidip results.
Anyway.
Targets!
LSD Prop loop Stage 3 HD tune (Z32 AFM, Sunny GTIR injectors, stg 3 chip) Dodgy paintjob
Re-MoT
Timeframe? God knows! I've washed my daily twice in 8 months... kind of tells you how much time I have for silly things at the moment!!

Everyone with a 'drift' mx5 goes on about Montana spray paints. Supposed to last well and get a nice thick and even coverage.

Just finished reading through this thread the last few nights, I liked Capris anyway but this is amazing! Got a little bit of a Mad Max vibe too which is pretty cool. Looking forward to seeing what's next!
