Just come in for a cuppa. Got the manifold and turbo off this morning and it seems that the manifold was blowing at the head between cyls 1 and 2 and on 4: So I can only assume it's warped. The 'braces' at the turbo flange have cracked as well but as yet I haven't found proof that the manifold itself is cracked as I've given up stripping the wrap due to itchiness. It definitely appears to be warped though as the manifold was torqued down tightly. It wasn't blowing at the turbo gasket; Or at the elbow (on which the lowest nut was missing due to being a cock: So next I need to get some suitable washers and nuts to put it all back together again... And here is how she looks at the moment Hopefully one step forward two steps back three steps forward

cant believe how moody this looks mate you have done a mega job on her,was surprised you went turbo though i know you wanted reliability but these sound the dogs on carbs and can be set up to run well. i might have missed it in the thread somewhere but what are the wheels you fitted i have been looking for a set for my MK5 cortina for ages i thought they were australian performance any info would be a massive help i need them in my life.

Cheers for the compliments dude sent you a PM bout wheels Went for a turbo because I had a 200sx and loved it, then restored my capri and was a bit disappointed with the performance. Didn't go for a v8 because I wanted to be a bit different in a way I wish I'd just put a v8 in there but I'm sure first time I get to experience the boost again I'll be happy with my choice again

Haha I expect to lose more blood before it's on the road! Just grabbing a cuppa now then I'll see if I have enough nuts and so on in my stocks to refit my turbo properly - fingers crossed!

Well I refitted the manifold and turbo everythings back together and solid and went to refit the exhaust and... Back to the drawing board. Exhaust is miles out and need scrapping and starting again which, to be honest, has properly pi@&£d me off. I 'might' have had a tantrum and chucked a cup of tea at it. Next step is get it on the ground and push it off a cliff... I mean push it to the top of the drive to sort my tools and garage space out again and then push it back in and have a think... One of the plus sides of junking my tasty aftermarket manifold is the big turbo is now visible and it wasn't before. Swings and roundabouts.

'Mazin'! Hoping to get started on my Cortina soon now that the Anglia's gone & the day's are getting longer. Definately thinking J 4 pot turbo. If you do go J 4 pot, id suggest the sr20 engine out of a 200sx or low model skylines. The engines can take alot more power reliabley and have around 220 bhp as standard (i think). Nice looking capri though mate, i see one with the exact same engine at castel coombe when i was at the mini world action day last year. I wasnt too excited about the performance of that one tbh, lacked on the track, whether it was the driver lacking some manly parts or not i don't know, but your capri looks lush

My mate had an S14a with the SR20det engine and it didn't float my boat as much as the CA in my 200sx did. It didnt sound as nice either, anyway - SXOC is the place for CA vs SR debates! ;D Last time I used it in anger at just over 200 bhp it would spin the wheels in 4th in the wet when the boost came in and in the dry was so quick I couldnt glance in my rearview mirror to check for dodgy smoke so with 280bhp I think its gonna be quick enough for me at least! Anyways, I've fitted the old manifold and the T28 back on and all is snug and tight, started it up and as far as I can tell there are no blows. I used all new washers and nuts etc.. got a fairly large amount of anti freeze in my hair whilst doing it! Unfortunately the exhaust doesnt fit at all now as I designed it for my tubular manifold, even some chop and welding won't sort it (you'd have to see it to understand) so after all that I'm back to the drawing board with the exhaust and its also probably going to have to wait for a bit. But we'll see. Look out for the next installment - I might not update the thread now until its MOT'd... Could be a bit of a wait Now where did I put that stupid Puch Maxi.....

She's on the road! Just before the maiden voyage: Out and about with meltedcheese's Volvo: It was brilliant to be behind the wheel again! Slightly marred by running problems though, I've been upsetting my lovely neighbours with noise (it's fecking loud) so I took some tools and set the timing in a country lane and attempted to improve the running. Got it a bit better - timing is spot on but it doesn't like steady throttle, only acceleration :/ it misfires on steady throttle... It also cuts out if I give it a rev up and let it settle back. But it sounds incredible and I can finally drive it - teething problems inevitable I guess! Hopefully I'll be able to get it running properly soon but at least I can (just about) drive it to test it now

Excellent news, love this car Rev/idle problem - on the SR20 it's the idle control valve that needs adjusting to reset the base idle speed, located on the plenum, don't know if the CA is a similar set up.

Cheers guys - yeah I'm made up to finally be able to use it Got it runing better, its only on very very light throttle that it misses now - I think it may have a boost leak as a couple of my clips have gotten a bit weak the amount of times they have been on and off. Going to replace them all and take it from there. Solved the oil leak on the engine which is ace but my diff casing is leaking now from a pinhole by the brake pipe clip - just gonna top it up till I find a replacement
