on my mk2 golf the water temperature light keeps flashing but the temp guage looks normal. is this just a fault with the light? the guage isnt stuck or anything since it changes a lot. some times the light flashes when the car has only been running a few seconds and wont stop untill i restart the car.
does anyone else have this problem?

My old Goof used to do that. There are two solutions: one involves a small square of black insulation tape, the other a new temp sensor.

;D I never got round to fixing mine. Did exactly the same thing - the light would come on for no reason at all, even though the gauge read OK.

the only thing i can find that seems to help is to turn the key half way so just the electrics are on and wait for it to stop flashing before starting the engine. doesnt always work though

it could be the level switch in the header tank,as that is wired throught the temp light, and is supposed to flash to show a low level, but as with things veedub play up.they are only cheap ish so its worth trying.
