That would have been very very funny, except that it was a bit sh*t. ;D ;D Nice idea, but it just wasn't that funny. And their 18 wheel Mini doesn't have 18 wheels. Count them, the trailer has six single wheels, it has 14 wheels. So it's both a fake Mini and a fake 18 wheeler. Doesn't have much going for it, does it? ;D ;D

this website is in my view quite simply vomit-provoking. It has zero comedy value whatsoever and appears to have been created to 'amuse' the sort of 'zany' vacant smug curse word who has already bought one of these new minis and shown their allegiance by sticking a union jack on the roof. FµCK OFF!

I always thought that the whole point of a Mini was that it was a very small car. The new one's not much smaller than my Octavia! It's a blatant attempt by BMW to cash in on the Mini cult, and it tends to be bought by people too stupid to realise this. As for the union jack on the roof, I hope that the Anti Nazi League target these cars as belonging to BNP supporters! The "new MINI"(FWD BMW!) has all the charm and character of a reproduction antique.

Have you noticed that people who drive those new mini's don't realise that the real deals were somewhat smaller? and what they are really driving is something that should be called a MAXI? or was that name already used.... ;D ;D ;D It's all abit like the Germans refering to bentlys as ...Volkswagon bently ..Just like Volkswagen golf...

Many years ago I changed my driving style to cope with rising fuel prices; I have now reached the stage where I am contemplating keeping my eyes shut in order to lower wind resistance.

The "Real" mini site is www.minifinity.com In the past there's been arguments and debates about the BMW mini and how its not a mini at all. For example, they don't leak oil, have whiney gearboxes or disintegrate into a heap of rust as soon as there's a hint of moisture in the air. To be honest, I quite like the idea of owning a new mini (it'd have to be a Cooper S though) so I can drive it the 11 months of the year when my old mini isn't working. ...Oh yeah, that website above seems a bit wibblepoo and lacking imagination.

To be honest I always thought of the new Mini being more like a new Austin Allegro, not in terms of looks, just that it has a similar sort of size and shape, and there was a 2 door Allegro anyway, I always thought of the Maxi as an estate car. Plus comparing it to an Allegro would probably p*ss of BMW management even more, although I actually like Allegros.

I don't doubt that new Mini isn't a good car. It's just the marketing for it is so waaay off the mark that it's shocking.
It just grates that they completely ignore all of the heritage behind the name, but still try and push it as some kind of 'cultural icon'.
Which it is quite clealy not.

I agree with you that BMW have abused the mini name and are cashing in on the past success of a product that was nothing to do with them - but look how many cars they have sold as a result. Makes me wonder what Rover could've done with the mini brand if it hadn't been so badly managed, under-funded, raped of all its decent marques and generally abused. I, for one, would love to see a new Rover Allegro - lets see what the Chineese investors have planned for Rover's future

It just grates that they completely ignore all of the heritage behind the name, but still try and push it as some kind of 'cultural icon'. Which it is quite clealy not. I agree with that, it's too big to be a Mini, and it's not nearly groundbreaking enough, it's just a fashionably mock retro modern hatch that's not that different from any of the competiton, whearas the original was a groundbreaking car that wasn't copying it's competitors. If anything the no longer current model of the Daihatsu Sirion is more like a Mini, at least it's small and space efficient, and it's a genuine rallyable city car, it has a 1 litre engine that's willing and punches above its weight, and it even has all wheel drive in some models, which is a relatively unusual drive layout for its class, much like the original Mini. Actually I like Daihatsu Sirions, I very briefly had one once through the whole Motability thing, and it was a great little car right through the few weeks that I had a loan of it. (While the Vauxhall that I actually had on loan from them was away getting fixed, being a bloody Vauxhall. : The new Sirion is also slightly retro-inspired styling wise, but still manages to be a thoughrally modern car and not copy anything else. Basically, if the new Mini was as interesting and original a car as the Sirion, I'd like it more. Yes, I'm extolling the virtues of a modern car, and for that I apologise. ;D ;D ;D ;D But believe me, the Sirion really is a J classic of the future.

I agree, that's just taking the p*ss. I'd bet a hundred quid that that's not even real wood, just some cheap plastic rubbish. Not that that matters to the yuppies, for some reason they'll buy it for it's supposed retroness, because retro's "in at the moment" according to whoever gives these nuggets their orders about what's acceptable, but never in a million years would they consider a real old car with wood pannelling, they're just old bangers.
