1960 Citroen ID19 29/1 mindless update

my god. Had it back in wellington for nearly two weeks all WOF'd and registered.
Last order on the cards before a wof was to build a tail pipe from the muffler (which resides under the front bumper) to the rear of the car. instead of the factory twin 1.25" jobby I went with a single 2" one. Bought a whole length of pipe and ended up with only about 700mm left over! only a few basic tweaks required so was an easy job.
left the tailpipe long for gags. My mother thought I was seriously going to leave it.... I was tempted.


Experienced a couple of problems since hitting the road that I've had to fix. always niggles after undertaking work like this.
Firstly I found I'd not tied the main accumulator/regulator return pipe up properly which clipped the driveshaft and got a big hunk ripped out of it. thankfully only a few km from home. the problem here though is that I lost about 3 litres of lhm all over the side of the car. hell of a mess!
then my clutch cable went all weird a couple of days later so had to sort that.
Also, with 10 years of dormancy and about 12-14 years between sphere regassing, teh rear spheres are beginning to give up the ghost, with the fronts fast behind them. this means a very firm ride which isn't ideal. eventually the suspension will become rock solid but I'm hoping that wont be for a few days yet as I've a trip planned.
It's got the original spheres on it from the donor car, which are two piece rebuildable items. For little more than a regas, though, I've got a set of BRAND NEW, gassed and ready to go reproduction spheres form Belgium. they look like bx ones so aren't aesthetically correct but should ride exactly the same. I've got the fronts but the rears are a special order (different damper valves to normal LHM DS ones) as per the seller's recommendations, so I have to wait until after easter for those.
Also I've now got a spare set of steels which I'm planning to powdercoat in a cream colour, like so

I still haven't put my new tyres on yet so am lookng forward to that. the old ones on there now are so hard, they've become slippery like some bakers secret muffin trays or something

been legal for a couple of months. Been a few places. most recently to the National rally orgnaised by the Hawkes Bay citroen car club.
was the tattiest D there, and also one of the few that actually sues their car on a regular basis. We were also the youngest there by about 30 years. hah. very interesting though and met a few jokers that will be very helpful to know. Few people couldn't fathom young people owning such a steed, let alone fathom how anyone but a citroen specialist could ever work on one. It's jsut a car, though. People are so scared of these things for no good reason.
