Santanas are great.... i have had in total about 5 of them, the last one was this : and the 1,8 carbed engine is the best, they ever built (as long as the carb is fine...) ....as for the lowering, i'd go for H&R springs, combined with Audi 80 shocks at the front (you do get them shorted from many suppliers), Audi 80 20V spring caps, standard shocks at the rear.... most important for the low look is the tyre profile; 205/50 15 on ATS Cups or Ronal Turbos look best.... this is my Passat wagon, which is virtually a Santana wagon... small diameter/low profile tyres make a lowered Passat / Santana look like an SUV.... Anyway, enjoy the Santana, and give it a good waxoil treatment, the factory wax is fine , but after 20 years it needs freshening up.... especailly the doors tend to rust badly....

wicked, ive been looking into lowering techneques on these. oh and I'm a member of the ukpassats site now as of last night i noticed the front shocks are quite high, sorta limit the lowerage... i think lowering it has to be an all or nothing sorta thing due to the hight of the rear lights. al lil bit lower just wont look right. pics of todays fiddling shortly

That is extraordinarily cool, and a real find at ÂŁ102. Give it a good scrub up and leave it alone, please don't scene it up! seen some cracking ones of these on eBay that have been ruined by moronic modding with brillo pads and haxksaws.

na its going no where near the "scene" I'm retro all the way allways have been. theres several local meets that i get asked to go to but never to as they are "scene" meets that end up with guys going oh you should do this ............ just gonna do what i love to do . and thats subtle lowering and some nice wheels then leave well alone and just keep the old girl up together

Sounds like it's in good hands. Santanas are smart looking cars already so I reckon your plan of nice wheels and subtle lowering should look top notch.

That looks great! Is the engine in the engine bay facing front to rear like my Audi 100 or side to side like a Golf? Fantastic stuff, just like an overgrown Derby

loving teh santana! actually had this on my watched items list, was half tempted to whack a bid on it! I was gonna join ukpassats, but I had a look and they all seem to be mashed up 20vt's and the like. Are there any "proper" one on there?Don't mean that disrespectfully, just not my bag I'm on there (i actually designed the current wersion of the site) with my B3 GT know what you mean, there used to be a good community of b3/4 owners on there, but as usual in the VW "scene" most of the guys have chopped them in for golf or corrados, still a few of us tho sticking with the old wagons, had mine for 3 years now and cant see me ever getting rid of it hehe

I guess this uses the same "platform" as the Audi 100 then? It looks a similar size anyway.
You can get loads of tuning parts for the 4 cylinder engine as its similar to the one in Golfs.

before!! after I'm pretty happy with it, it gets rid of the massive gap and gives me more scope for different wheels....... wanted to keep it useable too and its still just as soft but handles better so all in all it went quite well
