Ok...been sniffing around this 'T' plated brown 3 door civic that was in a Asda in Reading. Car seemed well solid 2 weeks ago, with only missing drivers side door window - I put it down to an eccentric owner who simply forgot to wind it down.
I return today to see someone has caved into the side of the car and pushed it to the back of the car park. I do not have the means to save it. Anyone in the Reading area care to take it away?
Shame to see it vandalised further, pictures will be uploaded later.

legally, you're allowed to remove a car if the owners are untracable... if you're satisfied nobody wants it the police will normally turn a blind eye to you 'stealing' it if you explain what you're doing. then it's a case of writing to the DVLA, they will write to the last keeper, if no reply within 6-8 weeks i think it's yours.

Which Asda - Tilehurst or Lower Early?

Near the uni - Lower Early, if you drive to Asda, but continue as if you're getting petrol you'll see the car on the last car park on the left before the filling station. I'll pop round again after work and take pictures of the damage to see if anyone can repair it. Fancy your chances? The drivers side has been mangled which is real shame. Let me know if you're going to take her - otherwise I know a friend who probabily will. legally, you're allowed to remove a car if the owners are untracable I wish I knew this back in 1986...there was a green 'K' registered Datsun 510 at the bottom of my road. All I took was the badge.....

I might pop round tonight then - it's in the car park I usually use when going to the sports centre next door.

I still say we should have liberated that air-riding Citroen from the corner of Donnington Services car park on the way to RCS... *n

Hmmmm, not entirely sure about the legal ins & outs, but a policeman offered to loan me a trailer( ) to take a mk1 Sierra away the other day. Hell, that's good enough for me! BTW I do have a few early Civic bits but no body panels I'm afraid!

i'm pretty positive that's how it works, i know a couple of people years ago who reclaimed beetles found in in lay-bys that way. it takes patience and i'm not sure if strictly speaking you have to leave the car in situ for the 6-8 weeks, but by then it'd have been crushed no doubt.
best bet is to ring the local feds, tell them the situation and ask if you'd be prosecuted for it. a lot of it comes down to common sense - if you're trying to convince them a 53-plate Focus RS has been abandoned then they'll laugh at you, but a T plate Civic which they probably have already been to see and put the 'aware' stickers on.... they'll probably thank you for getting rid of it.
