Hi guys I'm new to the site and thought i would share my W.I.P with you all Hi guys I'm off again with a W.I.P. This time its the brother inlaws 1983/84 mk1 Golf. He got it off ebay about 3-4 weeks ago as a spares or repair/ none runner, why, i don't know as he carnt fix cars so I'm left doing it :lmao: Abit about the car that ive found out 1, Someone has fitted a Mk2 golf GTI engine and the wires go all over the place and most things don't work 2, Brakes... well they don't work at all somthing i have to have a look at later. 3, Welding. It needs a new rear arch welding in ( got that ) and front and rear valance need to get them 4, Needs a new door fitting 5, 2 new wings, rust has got them  6, Then a respary Ive been looking at the car the other day and the engine is not starting so after digging around the engine for abit i found the injectors are blocked so need to get some more. Anyway here are the start of loads of photos to come :Cool2:

Any carburettored engine out of a Mk2 golf will fit a doddle, 1.6 or above, just swap the engine mounts over off the engine you took out.

You could have left front panel off and made life a lot easier slotting a new lump in? Looking good anyway. One of my neighbours has a Golf Cab' that just sits at the roadside. Such a waste!

Thanks whitbytom. Ive been told engines from the polo will fit up to the mk3 do you know if thats ture ? Yes they will, but you will need to modify/fabricate a passenger side engine mount to fit any 'small block' 1.0 to 1.3 engines

Having looked at the pictures you posted, I can't see the mount on the gearbox side, as the battery's in the way, and there seems to be the existing mount there (the one further forward) and another slightly further back on the chassis leg. This is the setup you're after, you can see the mount at the bottom edge of the picture:

Sorry bud ive only just seen this post diddnt know this wip had a page 2 lol I will have to have a look on the car for that mount under the battery tray Right guys update time I went to start cutting out the rear arch as it is well dead But after looking at it, it looks like it will need 2 inner arches too. I wasnt happy at all. When i looked at the side thats had a new arch fitted i found the inner arch doesnt meet the outer arch. Here is the side thats ment to have been done

We needed to get the rear as close to been as straight as we could so the new valance would line up right. After having a cuppa and a think about it i thought it would be worth cutting a hole all the way acroos the valance and get some bars up behind the skin of the valance and the inner skin of the car and try push the dint back out. I has over the moon when it worked lol When the rear was straight again i cut the old valance out and fitted the new one with self tappers for the moment here is how it looked when i finished last night

That looks much better! Are you going to attack the spare wheel well first? Looks a bit easier to get at without the valance in the way
