This starts with an appology....I am about to commit the heanous crime of asking for pictures but suppling none, for which please accept my humblest. Got an interesting response from paulh in my jumphour clock thread about making a speedometer that works the same. Couldn't be too hard, has anybody done or seen anything like that before? Also while pondering about speedometer and revcounter combination possibilities while looking through tommy's volksrod thread I got to thinking that it might be cool to have a speedo and revcounter that were integrated into the same dial, with the needles mounted on the same axis like a clock, just have different coloured and length needles with the numbered graduations round the outside couloured to suit the needle. Not the best way to recieve the information visually but in some instances that isn't the only concern. So lets see your pics of off the wall dials. What have yer got, digital, ribbon, dual axis whatever.

Oh dear, I'm having a bad day already. Picture threads with no pictures, posts in the wrong section. Perhaps I should go and have a cup of tea.

I've seen speedos where the dial part rotates not the pointer. And I've seen at least one tach that does that. In both cases I can think of the dial is actually a drum which rotates in an almost horizontal plane. The speedo example is another of the pointless but therefore extremely cool innovations on the 1958 Edsel range, the tach was an aftermarket one from the 1970s, possibly Japanese in origin. here's an Edsel dash the far left instrument also appears to be a fixed pointer and a horizontal rolling drum/dial. Much like the tach I mentioned, except that was in a kind of triangular tripod stand case thing. Also notice the push button gear shift in the centre of the steering wheel. Jaguar's XJS also has some odd rolling drum (vertical plane) instruments in some versions at least. There were for the oil pressure, volts, etc.

Conventional gauges but all in the centre... Off the top of my head you could probably modify a normal needle speedo in the manner of your clock - using lightweight OHP film with the numbers on. I think you would get in to difficulties if the rotating parts became much heavier as the spring that regulates the needles movement would need changing.

Ello, all I can offer is pictures of the CX speedo and rev. they're revolving drum type: And here not lit up and in different lighting condotions: And the BX: (sorry not so clear here) Lit up at night revolving speedo center top Driving If you could find a S/H speedo head from a BX or GSA(same part) you could use the mechanism to make your own. Only thing is that the Citroen ones rotate at the 'wrong' axis for you and I don't think you could work them on their sides as they're weighted. A clock spindle could be used for your tacho in speedo idea and you could use a stock speedo and tacho behind a panel with the clock spindle coming through to turn the 2 disks - only problem is the weight of the disks over the weight of the needle of the stock items causing lag. On the Citroens the speedo and tacho light up with the ignition even during the daylight and not just with headlights - you might want to consider doing that too?
