As some of you may know I've been looking for a newer daily driver for my girlfriend, she usually uses the Mk1 Polo. Well unfortunately we've found one, got it at the weekend - a Lupo 16v Sport. Cracking little car but it means the Polo will have to go as it won't get used any more... Will I be banned from the forum now or is my '91 Golf counted as Retro?

Forgot to say, Penski has first refusal on the Polo Now, the Mk1 Polo but with the 1400 16v engine from the Lupo, that's my kind of car! ;D

Your Golf is Retro enough for you to stay here - I'm afraid!
I know PEnski has first refusal on the POlo - but how much are you looking for it?

I won't post up a price just yet as I'd rather just sort it with Penski but it'll be very reasonable...! Just thought I'd post up some pics to lament the passing on of a really cool retro car. Still got it for now though so going to enjoy the 50bhp go-kart for the meantime! ;D

Unfortunately, time/logistics/work mean that getting down to look at it/get it is going to be virtually impossible. : I have to say though...Whomever gets it, look after it - too nice to be ruined *n (still looking, may have retro fodder yet, may keep something within the forums, may be something that would suit the Lupo lump...)

Bad news Penski - see PM Everyone else, I will knock up an ad with details/pics and put it in the 'For Sale' section, will be £500 ono but there is a strict vetting process on potential buyers, my g/f won't let me sell it to anyone who's going to butcher it. No fablon, whale tails, murals etc etc... lowering and wheel change are acceptable though

lupos are definately a future retromobile..... they're being phased out soon in favour of the fox so they've got a relatively short lifespan in their favour, not masses of them around, and there's the GTI which is pretty damn good, lots of the original Golf GTI 'flava' in there. try and keep yours to the age and condition of the polo and you should be onto a winner!

Are faster engines accepted? You have PM btw. Hi Phil, saw the PM - will reply later. Spoke to my g/f and she'd prefer to sell the car to someone who was going to keep it fairly standard really as it's only done 58k and runs great on the original engine. Will have a think and get back to you anyway As for the Lupo, gave it a good clean and a quick blast around the block last night. Have to say it's rapid, 100bhp and 950kg, feels as accelerative as my 16v Golf up to 5k rpm and handles like a go kart, I like it a lot. Agree that it'll be retro in the future so hope to keep it for a good few years.

Your girlfriend seems to be very keen to decide who will be allowed to buy this polo and what they will be able to do with it if she decides they are worthy enough to own it….
Seems a bit cheeky to me seeing as its her who’s actually binning it off for a newer model. Lets face it anyone who buys it off here is hardly gonna banger it.

Yeah, it is a bit cheeky I suppose It's just such a nice car, don't want to go to a show in a years time and see it chopped up or messed about too much. To be fair both me and my g/f would keep the car room permitting and I did intend to modify it when we first got it. Just got used to it as standard and decided to keep it that way. I'm probably being too picky about potential buyers! Still, if no one wants to look after the old girl I'll have to tarmac the front lawn and make myself an extra parking space...! ;D EDIT: Just for clarity there, by 'old girl' I meant the Polo and not my g/f...

You maybe right Mr_Bo11ox - not that the 680kg Polo would be a good choice for a banger But I for one am hankering after doing something like this to one ;D I would really love your Polo to accompany the Derby - they'd look great on the drive together, however it isn't really a practical proposition, as I can only really keep a maximum of two cars - & one at least needs to be comfortable doing long journeys I really like the Lupo - wouldn't say no to a GTI anyway - they are the kind of car that the New Mini should have been, i.e practical, funky, economical and actually small.

"I thought DarrenW had the monopoly on Fablon" after suggesting a mini: Personally, the Lupo GTi is closer to the mkI Gizzolf GTi than anything else VW has to offer. It looks great and responds really well to a little Clean(ed.be)ing *n

there's a kid round here got a lupo 1.4S. it's yellow which counts against it and all the things he's done to it would look pap on a corsa or saxo but it just looks..... right. stretched tyres, cleaned of bumpstrips etc, centre exhaust a la GTI, german plates.....
it's even got a badboy bonnet!
