Just got back from a baking hot day out, we were on the LTV VW stand (managed to fit almost 30 cars and campers on the stand) loads of retro cars and classics. Have a look on www.speedman29.co.uk/ in the "motorsport" section "Mad car of the day" award goes to this blown Trabant Sorry to Skodanorman, I popped onto the Skoda stand as it backed on to ours but couldn't find you, maybe next time

A few cars had them hung up for a local charity, could have been for repairs to the bodywork everytime it gets torn off with a quick getaway though

Unfortunatly that trabant wasnt supercharged, still very cool tho! The transmission tunnel sits very high inside, the shifter was at shoulder height! That racing truck was very cool, the guy drove it there on the road! Its 800bhp and around 1500ft/lb of torque! the new engine will have over 1000bhp but they cant dyno it at the engine builder as the dyno will die! I sat in it, the roll cage was massive, and the boost gauge was red lined at 3.5bar! Good day all in all, very very hot. I know as i got sun stroke I shall post my photos soon cheers J

Oh yes, they still do lorry racing, and you still get the odd guy who'se willing to drive his motor to and from events, and by the looks of things it could still do a day's work, what with still having a fifth wheel, but nowadays lorry racing's become a little too commercial and big budget, even this guy seems to have got onto the bandwagon, I'm seriously impressed at the 1000 horses he'll be getting (what sort of engine lives in there incidentally, because I really don't see the original Cummins engine getting that! ;D ;D ;D) but back in the early days of lorry racing a guy would work his mildly customised lorry all weak doing regular haulage work, then he'd race it at the weekend, then get it home and ready it for the next week. These days it's all about huge budgets and huge mods and the majority of owner drivers and even most haulage firms can't afford to keep up, so I've lost a lot of interest in the sport. If I were to compete, I wouldn't touch an ERF, it'd have to be a Scania or Volvo (the Volvos tend to perform better, and are stronger, but the Scanias are much more simple motors, and while they're slightly less reliable than the Volvo artics of similar size, they are easier to fix and there's much less electrical nonsense going on, so I'd imagine it'd be easier to modify. That and a Scania 4 series with a V8 or the new R series are very attractive motors, whether conventional or cabover, although the Volvo FH12 (12 litre six cylinder) and FH16(16 litre 6 cylinder with up to 610 horses as standard, imagine it post modding! ) are quite attractive too and have a certain charm to them, I have fond memories of a 420bhp Volvo FH12 artic my dad had in the mid 90s It seriously shifted too, especially with the limiter off (not legal I know but I once drove it at 120 miles per hour, no kidding, and it was hilarious fun! Off the road of course!! ;D ). But anyway, yes, the sport does still exist, but it's really not as good as it used to be. I've sat in plenty of artics since I was old enough to climb the ladders into my dad's long distance Scanias, and I've sat in plenty of other lorries, including racers, the racing stuff is pretty class to sit in, isn't it? And less of your bloody cheek Tonycocacola, you know what I meant! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

It was a good show. My pics will be on the site shortly. there was loads on display...even a good display of Skoda's I have to say tho, that the Peugeot Sport Offical Owners Club were really friendly. I thought it was great. That Octavia was built by a member of the SOC club and has been passed around owners a few times. It won car of the stand at Uxbridge and car of show at Stanford Hall in may. I only had one complaint from Uxbridge. And that was the cost. £1.50 for a 500ml bottle of Fanta that wasn't even cold! <_<

Didn't buy any drinks at all, did drink about 5litres of water though. Anyway £1.50 not bad for a warm fanta, I was in Iceland a couple of weeks ago and 2 pints of beer cost me £18
