Hi guys. Thinking about purchasing a MK2 1300 Sport Escort, 3 owners from new, very little rust (it's from France) but here's the rub - it's a 4-door The lads on OSF say it's a rare bird but rare as in worth something or rare as it wouldn't-touch-it-with-yours... The details I have are: Date of reg: 06 04 1977 Type: GAJYR-F3 ID: GCAFTM81048 If anyone can give me some information then great.

Nothing wrong with a 4-Door Mk2, Didn't know they made a 1.3 Sport though, only thought they made a 1.6 so I would of thought it was quite rare. What colour is it?

We need pictures! Sounds perfect, I'd love one of these but they sell for sell money and are always rotten.

4 doors are picking up in value, but only cos 2 doors are stupid money now, don't think we got 4 door sports over here, but used to be plenty of 2 door 1.3 sports running about, we had a the fairly rare 1.6L over here as a sporty 4 door model, it ran all the 1.6s running gear but came with L trim and 4 doors.
Its your choice but personally i wouldnt bother if there are still reasonable priced 2 doors where you live as the 4 door will never be as sought after, and just cos something is rare it done mean it will be a great car, 1.3's are sloooooow and theres a reason there were way more 1600 versions.
Having said that my ex's mk1 is a modifeid 4 door, makes life much easier if you have kids and want it as an everyday car. Far to many variable we don't know about to say you SHOULD do it.

Volvo back as my main squeeze, more boost and some interior goodies on the way.

Yeah thanks popuptoaster. That's what I wanted to hear. I'm still looking for the elusive 2-door non rotbox. The 4-door would have been a good start that I could sell when the right (TBH mk2 Mex) came up at the right money. I was hoping the rarity of it would tip the balance. It's not too close, it's the wrong side of France and I'm the wrong side of Spain so it's about a 15 - 20 hour drive. Then drive back!

does look a nice car, but price would have to be right and thats a long way to travel to get it, i think you'd have to be looking for one just like it to make it worth the effort to collect.

Thing is..... ......There's also this in Germany..... Is good ol' basico, but again, looks rot-free. Waiting on more photos of the usual suspects. Same sort of money aswell. what u lot think? Buy the 1300 Sport, enjoy it, sell it or buy the nicey 2-door and spend fortunes on Zetecs/5-speeds/RS interior/quick rack etc? BTW, C-crunch is a million times worse here than it is in the UK - and for the last 3 days it's p*ssed it down

I'd buy the 2 door and modify it, but thats my opinion.

maybe it's just the photos, but the R/H rear arch looks claggy, and the quarter looks like it's bubbling up... Like I say, may just be the photos??
|
|
... the only injury I sustained was a bumped head when I let the seatbelt of without realizing the car was upside down and that's not really the car's fault.

I'd buy the 2 door and modify it, but thats my opinion. I think that's what my heart says as well. Buying the Sport hoping someone wants it for their collection probably ain't going to happen - especially in this climate.

Yeah, I expected a bit of rot - but a couple of arches are better than floorpans/a posts/inner wings etc. Like I said in my last post (don't know how to put 2 quotes into a post) I think I'll wait for the German guy to send me more "intimate" photo's of the usual rot places and then make my mind up. YA know, down here in the south of Spain I regularly see Renault 4's (cars and vans) Talbots - you name it, we've got it practically rot free. But blinking Escort MK1 & 2's None around. they're all MK 4 upwards.

I'd want better pics of the four door it looks bubbly all over, lot of surface rust under bonnet, 2 door stands out as better in the only photo, and cameras do lie, tough call, good luck with it

£2500 is a hell of a price for the 4 door, especially with the cost of getting it over here too & the cost of converting the lights etc & getting it MOT'd & registered.
It requires a bit of work, needs a respray, the rear arch needs work etc.
They did make 4 door Sports & they were available in this country but most people plumped for the Ghia instead. They are uber rare.
GCAF indicates that it's a 4 door Escort built in Germany at the Saarlois factory where Ford built Mk2 RS & Mk2 Ghia models.
Can't remember where Sports were built.
