To get a standard A40 this low, you'd have to dig a hole to put it in

Even if you knew nothing about cars, surely you'd notice the exhaust hanging off, 4 bal tyres and it pulling to one side when accelerating? Not defending the seller, but if you don't check these things then you must take some responsibility

It's easy to get carried away if you're a youngster looking at a 'dream car' which is just cheap enough to afford. I went to see a Corrado G60 years ago, when they were easily £2000-£2500 for a good one. This was up at £1200, just within budget. Looked around it, came away impressed and told everyone it was fantastic, my next car. Took a friend back when I went to leave a deposit, he pointed out the head gasket leak, cracked screen, poorly fitted dashboard, evidence of accident damage on the slam panel and radiator (which was tie-wrapped in!) and stone chips + rust on nearly every panel. Lucky he was there and wanted to see it, I walked away with the deposit still in my pocket and bought a much nicer G40.
I think there's still some blame on the buyers part, you need to inspect a private sale very closely indeed, but if it turns out to be a trader on the side avoiding the warranty issues, with a dodgy mate who does dodgier MoTs then you're already at a disadvantage. I'd immediately trust any car with a very recent MoT to be at least basically roadworthy.

the pulling either way was explained away by saying "they all do that its the torque steer coz itz zo pwaaaarful innit"
and if you are a kid brought up an max power type stuff you may well believe that.

Unbelievable. I will also share my incredulity at dodgy MOTs still existing. Weirdly enough a lad at work was interested in buying an EP82 from a lad in Bradford.... Needless to say I gave him the link..............

Scary stuff! But great to see the forum members rallying around the buyer and putting pressure on the conman to refund him. Hopefully that MOT tester will cop it for allowing a deathtrap on the road.
It is surprising that it was a trusted, long-standing forum member though... makes you wonder doesn't it?
*Eyes other RR'ers suspiciously* ;D

(this could have been prevented if the forum memebrs knew of the sellers passion for cat d bodge ups) but, there is also a lot of curse word from 'new member, saw this on another forum' and general 'dissing' of Bradford and its car sellers

Hmmm got to page 9 then the forum asspoloded - seems too many people are looking for it. I'll save it for a really boring point in my life. As someone else said bottom line is - if you can't tell your ARB from your headlight then take a mate who knows about cars along.

dodgy MOTS are still easy to get, between 60 and 100 quid round here, extra beer money for a tester for the sake of running a passing car through the emssions twice, and only valid at time of test, so unless its blatantly obvious the thing is to rusty to have passed you got no comeback on anything its feasible happened afterwards such as accident damage or non working/missing items

Page 41 was the last few comments, then the mods closing it with a comment/statement of fact.
The lad got his cash back in exchange for his car, but someone else reported the mot garage for the job on the car. A later MOT history report showed a once passed car missing the pass that the earlier history print listed. Not a record of an MOT being revoked, just that the last MOT was a fail and the retest pass totally deleted.
