...well catered for in the aftermarket... I thought that, until I spent a whole morning going round every parts place in South London trying to find a rotor arm for one. You'd think it'd be pretty commonly stocked, considering how many of these cars are still on the road, but it was like searching for unicorn poo...

They're one of those cars that have been done hundreds of times - but for a very good reason. They're fantastic machines if kept in good order, although a bad one will break your wallet!

I really like 'em. The 8v is really nice and torquey - I actually prefer it to the 16v. I'd love another Mk2 Golf (GTI pref) to smoke around in.

Light travels quicker than sound. That's why some people appear bright until you hear them speak.

I own 1.6 Golf Manhattan out of 1990 and I really love it. Been driving it for about 2 years now and it never even misfired. Now the dynamo (alternator in English I think) has to get swapped, but apart from tires, tax and gas I never had to spend a penny on it.
Lowered it (6 centimeters in front, 4 in back) and that even improved the handling in my opinion, although the comfort of a soft ride is gone. Widened steelies and satin black paint is my style at the moment, I have a thread somewhere in the readers rides section. Also I now have a Recaro electric interior out of a 16v GTI, which are absolutely marvelous seats, very comfy.

Incredibly good cars, no..REALLY.
Handle SO nicely when in good fettle and handle SUPERBLY when in sensibly upgraded fettle....
Like Misteralz says, DON'T poly bush it, it'll make it a pain in the oriface to drive on anything other than a mirror.
Although, coilovers, decent exhaust, etc etc....will perk it up no end and you'll be smiling more than a smiling thing.
