I´ve just about finished prepping the bodywork on the Capri and i´ll be over visisting Nightmares next week to get some decent paint on it. Now in order to get it registered over here i´ll have to put all the original running gear back in but once all the formalities are sorted i´d like to bin the V6 boat anchor and have some fun. I´d bought a 24V Cossi Scorpio and was going to fit that but my van decided to blow it´s engine this summer so the 24V is going in there..... If it´s expensive it´s not an option, this is not a cheque book restauration (she wouldn´t give it to me! ;D) i´m not into engine tuning as I haven´t got the foggiest but wouldn´nt mind shoehorning something different in there. Autobox is not a problem either.... Lexus any good? Volvo/Saab Turbo? BMW V8? What do you guys think, out of the box 300 BHP for the Capri? Cheers, Dave

I´d only be doing a few thousand miles in it every year POG so mpg is not really an issue.
Could be bit heavy though?

not very unusual but a YB will drop straight in and is easy to extract a reliable 300bhp from, personally though i'd stick a big V8 in it, something modern and aluminium if you want unusual or an american bigblock will be fun and give you all the power you ever need.

Volvo back as my main squeeze, more boost and some interior goodies on the way.

What about the Saab turbo with Omega gearbox route that PPC have gone down with their escort?
Engines are cheap, and I wouldn't imagine 300bhp would be out of the question at all.

i am currently trying to fit a lexus v8 into a mitsu pajero 4x4, the standard engine knocks out either 240 or 260 i believe. but they are a seriously under rated engine, these engines are good for silly amounts of power with stock internals( seriously stupidly silly) they're pretty small ish for a v8 not too big and weighs like nothing. I'm whacking on some bike throttle bodies, different injectors, aftermarket ecu and I'm aiming for easily over 300bhp all though tuning parts can be expensive you don't really need half of them, and one thing that is good about this engine is the torque curve for however much you increase the power the torque stays in that same region also. go on www.lextreme.com loads of info on there all about it. two other benefits are they're cheap, you get a lot of car for that money, and also take the exhaust off and just listen at how good that sounds its amazing it really is. ( i believe it has 5 boxes and 2 cats)

2JZ-GTE? 3 litre 330 bhp twin turbo straight six, or an 1JZ-GTE, 2,5liter straight six twin turbo with 280 bhp (upping the boost: 300+) they stay in one piece till above the 600+ bhp range You can pick up a Soarer with a 1JZ auto for about 1400-2000 pound.

Lexus V8 sounds good to me, especially if you don't mind (or do I remember rightly prefer?) an autobox. And you can have a good old natter with Nightmares about it and a test drive in his while you're there. I mean, straight 6 turbo would be pretty cool, but Capris deserve a V8

1989 Peugeot 205. You know, the one that was parked in a ditch on the campsite at RRG'17... the glass is always full. but the ratio of air to water may vary.

depends what you mean by cheap.
302 Ford will fit pretty easy, and a fairly basic build will get you 300-350 BHP of all-Ford muscle.
LS1 wouldbe a nice one, but I've not seen them in what I'd call "cheap" prices. but then you have the issue of tuning a SBF to the same power an LS1 puts out as stock...
People tell me its dead easy to buid a twin turbo lexus V8 and all that, maybe its easy for them, but there are days I struggle changing brake pads let alone fabriacting a boost refferenced fuel system from scratch...
