"and now for somethign completely different"
its FWD, V6 of 2.0 (fergeddabahtid) or 3.0 (beddah) litres, always automatic, loadsa toys, looks like a giant Almera.
Any reason I should want one?
Or reasons to avoid one?
My obscure-car-sense is tingling.
But I think I'd be better with a 300C, CROWN or something.

They were out when I was an apprentice. I remember being told that they had only sold 18 in Scotland and my work had sold 10 of those! They were also badged as Maximas. I think they are a UK version of some Infinty models as sold in the US of A but don't quote me on that! The 3 litre engine is the same block as the 300zx but without the quad cams or twin turbochuckers! Similar to the early 300zx. Could be an idea for a street sleeper? Pretty sure the brakes and front suspension are based on the 300zx set up too (obviously the 300 is rwd) Not sure why you or anybody would really want one! Big understeering monster! I'd have one of these OK, big comfy barge with a super smooth engine. Good alternative to a horrible 3.8 V6 FWD yankee cowboy-boot-wearers chariot!

These look nice...
What about a 323F of the same era as the 626?

Agreed, that shape of 323, with the cool little lights, pilarless doors, sleek shape and one of the V6 is a fairly big win in my books. Look i even found an older model on venomZ, mad respek

I think the US Maxima and the UK Maxima/QX(I've seen cars badged as both) were totally different cars sharing only some mechanical parts. This was quite deeply discussed on the mp3car.com forums a couple of years ago

I think Maxima might have been a trim level, like Ultima or even how Scorpio was on the Mk3 Granadas. 323F isn't really an alternative in the same way a Corsa isn't an alternative to a Omega? I've driven the early 323F and I didn't like it. Too soft and understeery even for me, and thats without it even being a barge.
I believe the QX was the Infinity in the US, and what they got as a Maxima was some JDM machine we never got but was smaller than the QX, but bigger than the Bluebird.

Early ones were called Maximas, then the Maxima QX, then a QX, very confusing...

That would be Robert Kilroy-Silk, daytime TV talkshow host turned UK Independence Party politician. ...Turned Veritas politician, turned independant. Left UKIP as they weren't anti-immigration enough for him, formed his own party (Veritas), which was then so unsuccessful in election that he resigned as leader. Yes, resigned from his own party. Basically, all-round laughing stock.

The first shape Maxima (that orange one above) was from 1989 til about 1993, 'J30' model and usually had the VG30 SOHC V6.
Second shape is the A32 which is badged as a Maxima in most markets, or Cefiro within Japan (was a replacement for the outgoing RWD A31 Cefiro). These (at least the J variants) came with a VQ20DE, VQ25DE or VQ30DE quad cam V6 engine. This is the same shape as that first blue one pictured earlier in the thread.
That silver one is a heavy facelift of the A32, although I'm not sure if they share the same A32 chassis prefix, but they have the same engine/transmission combinations anyway.

The first shape Maxima (that orange one above) was from 1989 til about 1993... We had a Maxima in 1981. Based on the 810. Had a synthesized female voice always telling you what to do. (Just in case you didn't have the real mccoy along for the ride... )
