I'm not sure how many here have read Phil Llewellin's writing in Classic Cars and Car, but I'm sorry to hear he died at the beginning of June. So from me - thanks Phil for some great writing over the years - you'll be missed!

Llewellin's writing was excellent, sorry to hear he passed away. IIRC he had a heart attack a few years back and wrote an interesting CAR column on it.
CAR's standard of writing in the 80's was truly brilliant. Used to love the massive, eight page features about them bringing back Alfas from Italy etc. Now it just seems to be bland rubbish in the style of Flop Gear magazine...

I started buying CAR as a kid in 1983, got every issue since and most previous too! His columns were always superb - a truly great writer. Alongside Russel Bulgin (who also sadly died a few years ago) he was one of my favourites.

I think Russell Bulgin might be my favourite car writer ever.

I think Russell Bulgin might be my favourite car writer ever. Mine too. The CCC article where he took Ayrton Senna to drive a load of rally cars back in the 80s... The trying-to-max-the-Lotus Carlton in the rain etc etc... I bought the "Bulgin" tribute book which contains reprints of some of his writing. Ever since the age of about 11 I've wanted to be a motoring journo but people like him and Phil Llewellin make me realise just how poor my efforts are...

Whats the name of that book? I know it was only a limited-run book and I have often kicked myself for not buying a copy. I will keep my eye open for it.

It's just called "Bulgin". The last articles/emails, where he is writing about his battle with his illness, are quite moving...
