I'm stuck. I was driving my 1850 around today and suddenly struck by how much I'm starting to not enjoy driving it anymore. It has its moments and I love the dumb little thing, it gets me anywhere...but it's starting to get somewhat un-engaging. I think I'm looking for something relatively fast, manual, good brakes, good steering - a drivers kind of car - but is still interesting and daily usable. Would be nice to have something easily tuned and tweaked. I've considered a Sprint, preferably lowered and with better brakes but have never really driven one of that standard. I keep seeing old shape (I think) 3 series BM's, and have always fancied a straight six. 325 I think is what I'm after. Any knowledge about that? Anways, as long as it fufils the criteria, game on Are Merc 190's RWD?

190s are RWD. I've never driven one, but from what I can gather the manul boxes aren't up to much, and they aren't as 'nimble' as a 3-series...

Thought as much. Poked around and found that the two litre engine is only 90 brake or some such. Pah

Merc 190's are as dull as a wet weekend in Dunstable. Only the 2.3-16 cosworth versions are worth bothering with really. 3-series wise, the one to have (if you want a 2.5) is the "Sport". But it'll cost you the shirt off your back to buy, and then everything else you own in fuel bills. For the best balance of performance and sensible running costs, go for a 318iS (although I am slightly biased). OK, so you don't get the straight-six noise, but they are very sporty and are reputed to be the best handling. 30bhp less than the 2.5 Sport, but it really only makes tenths off the 0-60, and 5 mph top end. This is an Ok looking example: 318iSHaving spoken to the owner, it seems a good bet. Sadly no LSD, but a few nice extras, and the guy will put on 12 months ticket if you ask nicely. You could always get a sprint though. They're FAB in my book!!!

Hmm. There is a Sprint not far from me with ticket for 600 quid. Yes, it's a reshell. Maybe I'll look at it. THanks for the info on the BM's. I'll look into those. Four pots are always good tho

MK111 Supras are fast cheap and fun and you can buy decent ones for £500. 180bhp with the N/A and 235bhp with the turbo plus lots more with a little money spent pretty bombproof engines as well. 200sx S13`s were cheap (£500) but now heading into the £1000 plus mark for decent ones. Terrible brakes on the pre facelifted ones one good press and there gone which is quite worrying in a 150mph car (tested ) But they are still good fun. MKIII, IV & V cortinas can be made to handle well if you polybush the back axles and put a set of decent dampers on and with a 2.0 litre there nippy or you could drop anything else out of the ford range in. Avengers are really good handling cars and most of the ones that are left always look pretty solid. As standard they are better handling than RWD escorts. I would have suggested a mk1 or 2 escort but prices for decent ones are getting out of hand now

Sticking with Triumphs ,and as an alternative to a P6, how about a 2.5 PI?

Yup, my vote is with a 122 or a 123GT. Crackin'! Turn it into a rally rep and smoke around with all the lights on scaring the barryboys!

My Volvo 760 Turbo is on Ebay as of yesterday... Due to loss of storage space, it is up with a very low reserve Will probably go for third the price of that Doly Sprint Big tuneable engine, manual 4+o/d box, RWD, loads of toys - what more could you ask for. Make me a vaguely insulting offer and I still might take it... Can't access Ebay from here, otherwise I would post a link.

Yea I love the idea of a 2.5PI, but they all seem to have dropped off the face of the planet! Gonna see if I can find a Sprint, or get a TR7 engined Dolly and uprate the brakes and suspension. Will see. I'm not sure the Volvo's my style! Will keep an eye on it tho Need to find a BM to drive now!

How about a 2500S? Cheaper than a PI and easier to find. AND they're cooler than an ice cube in shades. Or a FIAT Mirafiori 2000TC. OK they rust, but they're a great car, especially in Sport form. Or maybe Manta GTE. They're still quite reasonably priced.
