I know I keep saying it, but pandas are ideal first cars. Group 1 insurance, 50 mpg, very nippy for a 1 litre engine, and easy to tune to edit - fiat panda 1.0CL, 86000 Miles, new mot, 6mths tax at full price, low tax and low insurance, px and warranty, cheap reliable motoring at £495, 07941 057834

Will ask him when he comes in from work..........A 1300cc may be too high on insurance as its his first car,and he has to have business use as well.

Have you thought about a metro/R100 1.1? they are very reliable as long as the engine isn't ragged when cold and the water/oil is kept up. Plus they have cheap parts, insurance and give 50+ mpg!
