Now that I have myself a Cosworth V6, I am being tempted to put it into something a bit more interesting. The plan is to fit it to the Cortina which will happen but with a kid, the boot is struggling to swallow the pushchair. If we have another the car will have to go. The obvious choice would be an estate but there not usualy the most exciting cars on the road. However, thanks to Reliant there is one purposely designed sporting estate out there that oozes with retro cool and will happily take my Cosworth lump, the Scimitar!
I've just been looking on one of the Scimitar websites, have you seen how cheap these cars go for at the moment? I know that bad ones can really destroy you but if your carefull when you go to get one then there must be some real bargains out there.
Has anyone on here had mush experiance of these cars? I'm really tempted!

I'm not a big fan really, not sure why as they've never done me any harm. I just have visions of dodgy wiring and overheating. Probably seen too much of my dads horrible old Reliant 3-wheeler - easily the most sh@t car ever. Good choice if you're looking for a car just to set on fire though.

I don't think you'd need to set light to one, from what I've heard they do a pretty good job of bursting into flames on their own ;D. I like them though, I've wanted one for ages. Although i dunno how practical one would be with two kids. I know they're an estate but they aint exactly cavernous in the load space department .

I love Scimitars - I was gonna swap the Benz for one some time back. If the wiring's sorted and there's no rust on the chassis structure it's a fine machine. And Slotmags look the bee's boll0cks on 'em too!! Mmmmm Cossie powered Scim. Eeeeexcellent! The Cos V6 is based on the Cologne is it not? Don't know how much Reliant altered the chassis when they went from Essex to Cologne power... can't imagine there'd be much difference.... go for it! ;D

If your good with electrics then they're good cars. If your not, leave them alone.

There are practicality issues with it being a three door with still a relatively shallow boot space but it's got to be worth looking into.
I am well versed in the art of automotive electrics now and am confident I can sort that side out.
As for a V8 Scimitar, I am being donated a complete rover V8 with low oil pressure but with two spare blocks, a spare crank and a full set of spare pistons!
Though I think the cossie route will be the quickest option.

hello, we bought a Scimiar last November off eBay. My dad had wanted one since he drove a new one in the late 70s. we paid £1700 for it and it really has lived a pampered life. We've not done much other than a new fuel pump and oil filter and all this stuff...it's not perfect, but it is a very nice car. No slouch either, we had to slow down the other day going up a hill in it for our friend in a TDi Octavia to catch up. Mind you, the reason our car was for sale was because the owner wanted to take his young daughter out in it and it didn't have any rear seat belts - true, you can put them in, but he didn't want to ruin the originality ;D and the boot isn't huge ... oh, and don't be fooled like we were, our car does not have alloys - they are wheel trims! all the more reason to give it a lowering and some slot mags. they are practical enough tho, my dad uses it every day, and tows with it, and carries the bike with it. So i'd recomend one... ... oh, and check out the Lancia Beta HPE

Failing that, a MKII granny estate would suit that cossy lump nicely too

Cheers for the replies. If I'm going to fit a cosworth to it I'm not worried about upsetting the originality by fitting seatbelts in the back. Sounding promising, I've a mate who's recently bought one so might see if he'll let me have a look.
As for the granny, done that but want a change.
Cheers, Smiler

I think the SE6 has rear seatbelts. they have bigger more comfortable seats too, and they are quite nice...but the SE5 just looks better IMO.
If you like auto's your ok, as most of them are auto's...we went for manual and were lucky with this one.

I wouldent mind a Scimitar myself. Practical, good looking, good performance and Ford bits so easy to get spares for. Well easier then some classics.

I'm presently watching those two cars.
I had a look at a work mates car today. It's a 77 model so not tax free but otherwise perfect in blue with slotmags, full length webasto, 3.0ltr manual with overdrive. And clearance looks promising for the 24valve Cosworth lump.
It also happens to be for sale. Just wish I could sell some of my collection to pay for it.
