we run one on the LoCost at uni and it seems to change a lot making it impossible to use it to tune the engine from, its more to keep a quick eye on things.

I think one of these 'broadband O2' jobs is required for tuning, apparently you can download music and PS2 games on them too while you're driving, I think...?

Hmmmmm.... I think the words "time", "of", "money", "waste" "and" and "total" spring to mind for me.... except of course if it was purely for show! Surely it couldn't be accurate enough to tune your engine by

The normal O2 sensor are not linear in response, itll be 0v up untill 14:1 afr and then go to 1.1v at 15:1. The wide band ones are linear in response so the engine can be tuned from it. I say save up and get one of these www.zeitronix.com/Products/zt2/zt2.htmcheers J

Hmmmm i was going to get one of these for my G40 (supercharged motors, if left to run lean, tend to eat pistons) and a guy on porka.net was flogging them for about £20 i think, just a bunch of LEDs and a simple circuit to measure the output from your lambda sensor. it was even less in kit form if you can solder.
i don't think you could tune your engine from it but you could certainly tell if you were running rich or lean.

is the output data available for lamba sensors? I've a history of working in electronics/instrumentation so should be able to rig up a display as long as I know what signal I would be getting. I'm planning ahead here as all my projects are on hold at the moment.

lambda only tells the management system when the mixture is at stoichiometric, so i don't see how it could work. mind you, it's a bit cheaper than the wideband o2 I am getting for my Chammy sprinter. 130 squids for innovate wbo2. gonna use it with megasquirt... I'm

Cheers for all the replies, I'm starting to understand the system a bit more. Haven't had time to read it properly yet but this looks promising: www.diy-wb.com/This has got a lot of mentions on other forums: www.techedge.com.au/ Looks like the sensor is the most expensive part, lots more to learn!!!!
