The two things I do are... - cancelling indicators manually. I actually prefer ones that manually cancel now as you don't have problems with them cancelling when you don't want them to! - going down through the gears when slowing down. When driving modern manual cars, I go through all the gears at traffic lights, despite it doing sod all to change the speed of the car ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png)

I do the whole slight-dip-in-the-road dodging even though the AX is like a 4x4.
I also find myself searching for the choke in my mates cars before starting.

Its all a bit backwards in a modern after driving the ol' benz, moderns tend to have heavier steering and brakes, less steering lock, a bumpier ride, less room inside, most of em are not as quiet.
My throttle pedal is heavier, but as its floor hinged it works well as you can actually rest your foot on it rather than suporting it with your ankle, the Merc leans more in corners and the seats are not exactly supportive sideways so i tend to grab on when aproaching roundabouts in a modern.
The cortina was completely the other way though, 100% concentration required all the time especially if the road was wet, but huge fun, the Benz just lets you waft along and seems to drive itself, it looks old fashioned but don't really feel like it on the road.

double d-clutching/pothole avoidance and silly slow speeds over speed bumps I can definatly relate to...
blipping the throttle at junctions to stop it stalling is another, gets me some dirty looks from pedestrians

indicating with the wipers. that one gets me every time, lol Yeh, same, peeves me right off! When the hell/why the hell did they decide to change the side indicators were on?!? is it purely - and its the only reason i can think of - because with the influx of foreign cars from the continent they couldnt be bothered to change all the controls on the column to RHD??

Putting the wipers on and off to create an intermittent mode, even if it has one already.

I always thump the pedals, mainly because my Beetle's acceleration and braking is so pathetic, I have to wallop everything just so it actually does something. ;D I drove my dad's 2 litre 2003 Laguna once. Got in, handbrake off, into gear, and thumped the go pedal out of habit. Caught me by surprise. ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png)

Wondering which car I am in ! Not too long ago I had the combination of the following in the fleet - 3 speed with no synchro in first, 4 speed no synchro in 1st, 4 speed, 5 speed, 6 speed and auto with handrakes in 5 different positions. All with brakes ranging from useless to fantastic. Oh and the motorbike.

Since buying the Mazda auto I keep stalling the skoda at junctions by left foot braking and ignoring the clutch! Also I forgot what understeer was and nearly clouted a kerb on a roundabout in the skoda too.

I've realised recently that since driving older cars, I've gained a few habits ;D -I always cancel indicators manually after using them -I usually park facing downhill in case I have to bump start the car ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png) -I find it difficult to drive power assisted cars now, as I tend to steer them/brake too violently! - checking the temp guage more than the speedo -I get worried driving a car that doesn't seem to make any sound thats all I can think of at the mo, anyone else developed any retro symptoms? all of the above (especially cancelling indicators), plus: - double declutching - leaving long braking distances - forgetting I have a 5th gear ![::)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/eyesroll.png) - avoiding bumps (land rover leaf springs will give you road bump paranoia!) Kirsty ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png)

Left-foot braking in autos all the time, since having a yank with non-servo 4x drums. Other than that nothing except constantly listening out... for any change in the normal sounds...

The gear box is always fun.
- Trying to find 5th in a 4 speed box on the freeway.
- Trying to find reverse in a 5 speed after driving with a bmw 4 speed. (reverse is on the left side of 1st) I drove a Subaru Forester over the plans at a maccers car park trying to reverse out of the spot.
- Putting the car in 1st gear when you get out so it doesn't roll away down the hill.

I'm used to switching between the cars now.
When I first got the Volvo I was forever going between the seats for the handbrake, and massively overbraking when I got back in the Citroen.
Central handbrakes NFTW when you have an idiot housmate from Norwich who decides to rip the handbrake up from the back seat 'because you've got the handbrake on cos the light's on'.
Cue slithering off the A6 and said housmate walking home in the curse word rain for the next two years.
