;D Well, I have been after a proper "Fixie" for a while.... Missed it since my last one was nicked So I was after an On-one Pompino (With all the trimmings, brooks saddle and leather bar tape etc) I know I`m a tart ;D then I was in Bath the other weekend, and I fell in love...... Doesnt help that I`m a sucker for Martini Livery...... ;D So Today I sprung for one of these...... hopefully get it at the weekend Specialised Langster Monaco Even the Monaco logo is a nod toward the Martini Logo Cant wait to get out on it (And fall off shortly afterwards I imagine) So show us your Fixies ;D

Not popped my fixed cherry but am looking towards my next single speed conversion as my 8 speed commuter chucked me off two weeks ago. ouch, so no more gears to fall off come on! should have gone for one of those branded single speeds in the first place remember looking at these in the shop what is the reason to do fixed? no escape harmony with the bike?

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

I quite fancy a fixie, but funds are definitely not allowing it. In the meantime, how about some fixie pics?: Off the shelf Fixies: Charge Plug Freestyler Felt Curbside Fixie Inc. Blackjack

Nice looking bike them langsters, did you see the new york edition? Painted like a NY cab. I saw the "martini" bike at bike 08 at earls court. Thought it might have just been a show bike. Have you seen the Pashley guvnor. Not a fixie but a great looking retro ride.

What are the fixie 'benefits' other than injuries and bragging rights? *n

Top grammar tips! Bought = purchased. Brought = relocated Lose = misplace/opposite of win. Loose = your mum

This is my fixie, built for uni from absolute curse word I had in the shed. Its only a fixie as I had no wheels with freehubs that engaged, so got the welder out and covered the freehub body in weld to fix it. I also chopped off the old dropouts and cut out some horizontal ones so I could tension the chain easily. Now I've got used to it its awesome fun, and have real bad urges to spend money and buy a proper road monkey.

What are the fixie 'benefits' other than injuries and bragging rights? *n Improves your pedalling efficiency massively Its just a really nice experience, bikes end up very light as they are simple, pure and uncomplicated.... make great town/winter hacks as a result as there is very little to go wrong.... Difficult to describe why I like them.... you just need to try one for a while.... they are a bit Marmite...though, you will either love it or hate it

I was cycling in town one day. I was about to pass the cycle shop and the freewheel lost drive. It was 5:01pm so the shop was shut. So I walked out of town. Found some fence wire on the ground and wired my freewheel to the spokes. Yeah multispeed fixie. My dad had a lot of old wheels in the loft. There was a fixed wheel. So I fitted it into a Rudge roadster frame. Built up with rusty wheels, cut down drop bars. And a front brake. I used it a few times. Did 50 miles in one day. But the cranks were bent, so it hurt my leg. And the rusty front wheel munched a pair of thick pads in a day. So I biked to the dump The local kids got it out. Would see it randomly parked at the side of the road. So would have another shot on it. been thinking of building another fixie. Like the look of using a disc front wheel with a drilled cassette sprocket

I do much prefer the look of fixed's, like been mentioned just clean and simple. I'm not a fan of them tho, more scared i think, but my mates love them. One has 15+ retro original oval track bikes. Shall ask if it's ok to take pictures next time i'm round there. One of said mates above's girlfriend had a go on one. That didn't end well, she went over the bars and broke her collar bone, has a large metal plate holding it together to prove it

Sorry for the slight thread hi-jack but how would i go about building my own fixie. I have an old bike that is just sat around needing to be messed with and i am also a student (not alot of funds available). Is there a kit i can but and modify to fit or can i build it completely from scratch.
Thanks Mike
