Someone lead me on to a Stag and I just wondered if anyone had any pointers or advice to go with such a project - I've yet to actually offer to take it up...but it's not going anywhere.
It's a 79 (I think) Java green w/hardtop manual 4spd OD Stag. It's got 50,300 miles on the clock and was last driven 5 years ago - but has spent most of it's life in a garage.
I looked it over and the sills look to require a bit of work and there is a big hole in the front right corner of the drivers floorpan..difficult to fix?
Mechanically I just assume, automatically, that'll it'll be all new brakes, suspension odds and sods, filters, overhaul kits, new fluids and hoses then see wether the engine deserves a timing chain. All depending of course. The suspension wasn't leaking and worked ok from what I tried, the steering rack and bushes looked immaculate with new rubbers etc. Maybe stuff like that could be re-animatable.
The interior is beautiful and in black ..looks stunning. Externally the paintwork isn't too bad at all - the front valance has some surface rust, the hard top has some bubbling on it and the front-left arch is a bit of a state but it looks very presentable with almost no visible rust. Doors are in great condition. The chrome is also quite presentable.
Unfortunately the tyres were flat so we couldn't roll it. Apparently it's one of the last 200 off the line.
It strikes me that this car, in it's present condition, isn't really worth very much at all, if nothing. If done up and MOT'd and tax'd I presume it'd be in the region of 1800-2500£ on the road, like some I see in the bay. Any further and I think it'd need a respray (it's had paint work on some parts and has a drop of filler in some places but nothing major)
Any opinions or recommendations? Do you think it would be feasable, with solid work, to get it on the road quickly?
Many thanks,
Lewis
