This thing How is it possible to link the engines and get them synched up without a comp-licated igniton/injection system? Surely one engine is always going to be trying to turn the other one before it is ready to turn I'm confused! help! Tim

makes no odds if they are not all making exactly the same power at the same time, thats what happens to your crank anyway as the cylinders all fire individually, as long as the joins and cranks are strong enough to take the strain it all works ok.

if you like the drive after the torque converter then surely any variation will be lost in the fluid?
I don't think its an issue though, there used to be some Swiss made car which had two Rover V8s where the crank output flange of the first one bolted direct to the crank pully of the next one. Buggred if I can remember what it was though, it was a cracker in Top Trumps though!
To my mind it would be more tricky getting all those throttles synchronised!
Gotta love TV Tommy Ivo!

Wolfrace Sonic had two V8s with two gearboxes, here's a pic suggesting twin diffs were used on a Jaguar IRS based design...I can't see if there is a shared driveshaft between the diffs... www.wolfracesonic.co.uk/

how do the mad westfields with two bike engines do it? i thought that cars with two independant transmissions (ie one at front one at rear) cant be used on road with both engines on, but what about cars with two engines and one transmission?

Sonic did have a driveshaft in the centre with one slipper and the other diff locked, gearshifts and engine revs/throttle were done by computer, as it was the 80's it packed up all the time, computers weren't ready for home built systems to be reliable in cars.
