Silohoutte racing-- different definitions as to where you run the car, we used to race in Wendy Wools/Kent Messenger Thunder saloons, I am trying to remember the rules on body spec
Roofline and windows must be original spec dimensions, and as such was easier to use the original roof and frames from a road car, possibly the A & B posts had to be used too,
the Body can be no lower than the original door bottom, so you could run without sills,
Cars with "Formula"tubs, were not allowed to run central driving positions and had to be ofset by 3" of cenerline of car.
Wheelbase positions had to be within +/-5% of the original position in relation to A post.
The engine had to be in the original position, IE you were not allowed to make a rear engined car from a front engined car. but you could run a different drive IE FWD could be mad into a RWD
We used to run Bevan engined imps and a Davrian imp, this was fun until the likes of Doc Embury came along with a big budget car, so we tried a spaceframe BDA powered Scirricco, also tried it with a imp engine??, never worked very well, so we went up with the Big Boys, and bought a donovan powered VW variant fastback, built on a March formula 5000 tub, and a injected 383 donovan out back, went like stink untill the engine burst a head gasket and locked up at 7.5k, not a lot left after that, not to be outdone we went and bought a fresh engine, unseen from Mick Hill, came in a BIG wooden box, just thought it was a race prep BBC, Imagine our surprise when unpacked the Rocker Covers said Surtees, after a bit of research the engine No was SUR001 it was a all ally Big Block Chev built for made for a still born Surtees Can Am car, We sold the car on shortly as growing up and getting married started getting in the way,I beleive the car is still about with the same engine in it,
I think the VW in the pic is the same car we purchaced, the colours look familiar, but I'm not 100% certain,
YES WE CAN!!
