Was he OK with you posting these photos? It seems to me that this guy is an enthusiast trying to save some classics and the term 'waiting' is actually supposed to be 'crushed already'. There's certainly enough there to keep the banger racers happy for a while too.

this is my mate's 'cold store' - I hope you did get permission off wynn to post the pics, as he's quite scary! my donor buick regal and my laurel both came from that yard!
- most of that stuff is going via a classic auction afaik

- forgot to say, they do have a 'normal' yard too HL motors, old brickworks, llandudno junction
worth a ring if you need something weird, but I wouldn't bother ringing about stuff in the yard above^^ - they are very busy boys!!
(the fiat bits you mentioned were someone else's that were being temp stored at the yard)

If they're waiting to be crushed, it looks like they've been waiting a very long time! Amazing place

Well, I found the X reg HA viva a fascinating idea, I had one same colour as that.
It was registered in 1982 and last taxed in 1992.
The Pontiac was last taxed in '96 that Triumph Herald was 1994.
Whereas the Alfa was still taxed until 2003.
If they are genuinely tax-evaders then they can only be used as spares, they will have compulsory destruction orders on them and they have to be crushed (although you can strip them first I believe). This is fairly new and I do worry about the number of "you don't need a tax disc because its 25 years old" classics which may get caught up and crushed because they are owned by numpties.
However, in that case IIRC they are taken straight off the DVLA computer. The ones I can see reg plates for are still on the computer or I wouldn't be able to get the details.
Or is it only fraud cars which have to be crushed and tax evaders can be resold on by the authorities? i forget now.
Its an impressive cashe for sure, and should provide a motor and a roof for Mk3CokeBottle's HA if nothing else....

He said that his mate did have a soft spot for the odd classic or two..hundred !!. As they have been removed from the road due to tax issue's etc, then anything like engine blocks that have ID numbers stamped on them cannot be taken. I seemed to get the impression though that bits of trim, glass etc would be OK. Would be nice if they could be bought and restored though ;D.

Imported? My Audi is a 1990 car but the date of first reg on the log book is 1996 with (Decl'd manuf 1990) after it. The note on the front says "was registered and/or used. Declared manufactured 1990". Don't think it's a salvage job as it would say that. I've no idea of the History other than it's had 7 keepers since 1996.
Maybe the HA is a similar thing?

they AREN'T being scrapped - john will have told you that to put you off making enquiries!!!
the stuff on the other side of the building is tax dodging / recovered off the A55 type stuff, but is mainly just shonky old chod that would be no great loss
the stuff on the A55 side of the building is stuff in the main that has been scrapped at the main yard, then moved over to the cold store for long term storage
my buick regal had been off the road there for 10 years before I bought it!!
already tried to get the poncho out of there, but it's a spares car for the owners minter
- kev
ps - the building is FULL too, but I've not (as yet) managed the full tour!!

I recognise that Jag up on the bay. I see it from the cab of my lorry, I went past today!
IIRC tax doging cars HAVE to be crushed, or atleast the shell does, everything else can be sold off. I remember a MINT mk2 2.3 granny L in a breakers for this reason, it had about 20k on the clock and was spotless. The yard owner was gutted but explained he had a contact with the council and it had to be destroyed- hed thought about saving it somehow but there was no way round it. Next time we went in it was flat. Gutting!
