That top Trabant is certainly cool. Bbrrrr! We've got a Recaro (YA RLY!) child seat. Not the cheapest but it is the only one you'll need as it has a built in harness and padding suitable up to 18kg and then you remove them and use as a trad booster type thing to age 10 or whatever. We bought it because it is also exceptionally compact and much more suitable for the back of a smaller car. (I reckon most car seats are designed on the basis you will have bought an massive MPV at the first sign of fertilisation - they're huge! ) Seems very well put together and have certainly not had any complaints on comfyness too

We've got the Maxi-Cosi Priorifix.
As the name suggests, it's the ISOFIX version but they do the Priori as well which, strangely enough, isn't! The ISOFIX seat does still have the option of going in on the belt - I was in a Mk3 Golf VR6 when we got it - and the Father-in-law's V70, oddly, doesn't have ISOFIX so that's how it goes in on his.
Twas Which? best buy when we were looking, along with the Britax.
Nuff respect for being able to maintain the RR cause - the only reason I'm in a 206 is because I needed a diesel daily and SWMBO 'suggested' I get one with ISOFIX as opposed to the older stuff I was looking at. Great!

That Kadett Caravan is causing me minor 'spaffage' in the underpants department.
As for restraining little darlings, we have used the 'Britax First Class', because it seems to fit well in everything we have tried it in, with the exception of a Volvo 760. I think it has been discontinued now, but I can ask 'Er Indoors later as she is the expert (sells them in her shop). I think it cost about £90, but we've certainly had best value out of it.

We've just bought one of those travel systems from Mamas and Papas (2nd hand I might add, not spending £600 on one). What are the child seats like in those? There's a little base that goes in the car first, was thinking of making some brackets to bolt to the floor.

You can't necessarily tell by looking at them if they are damaged, and you wouldn't want to find out in the worst way. You can use the rest of it by all means, but hunt out a compatible car seat to fit to the pushchair wheels. * Awaits flaming "why not"/"it woz gud enuf 4 my kidz" etc

I used a Britax 2nd stage seat for my lad, fairly basic standard model, seems to fit in most car seats quite nicely though.. I also got mine second-hand, but it was from a good friend, who I trust, and i know the full history of the seat - never been in an accident/dropped/abused or anything... I still got it checked by our local installer juuuust incase Most certainly wouldn't use a seat with an unknown history, especially not over on the mainland where speeds are so much higher than here - would you use an old secondhand motorbike lid, that you didn't know if it'd had been dropped, to protect your head? Similar thing IMO

That would really bug me knowing it was 2nd hand, not knowing it's history. Little 2fster goes in, technically, a 2nd-hand seat in my Mom's car . . . but it was handed down from my 8 year-old cousin and I know my Uncle takes these things as seriously as me.

Oh, we also had a Britax seat as it seems others have. In fact my mum has been using it to take small_Seth around but as its only suitable up to 18kg it will soon need replacing. It is good becuase it can be mouted using only a lap belt - which was a necessity when we had the Sun-tor. We have also considered just hitching this to the tow ball for her.....

Should have mentioned it was from family, wouldn't risk "used" stuff as has been said.
