Picked this up from the side of the road today, saved it from the compactor with about 5min to spare. Judging by the shape of the frame and the abundance of Shimano gear I am guessing its a Panasonic. The stamp on the cranks date them to 1981, if anyone knows more I am all ears. This was hanging behind me while I took the photos so it seemed a shame not to share.

Nice find! Can't believe the stuff people are chucking out these days.
As the previous poster said, a clean and service, and you've got yourself a nice bike. Not a clue what it is though.

maybe pull out the forks might have some writing on the steerer tube.
might post pics on bike forums. Theyve got a vintage section that has a bike saved from the dump thread.

Way cool, great find! I have one of those Shimano 600 shift levers somewhere, I think they're awesome looking

Thanks for the comments. Plans include the removal of the tat (lights, reflectors, bell), air in the tyres (Michelins no less) and fixing the bent front brakes. A little more research has reveiled that the bike is most likely a Panasonic Deluxe-4000. Sadly its not a Professional 7000 Or a Track Bike And it didn't come with a robot or a space girl More retro brochures here picasaweb.google.com/scarsgo
