Right, I'm trying to make a decision wether or not to turbo the polo. just found out (other day) that the current engine is a high compression formal E one. (maybe rare ) I'm wondering if anyone has any idea what sorta carbs i could run? i like the idea of webbers?? but not sure on which ones. and id prefer to keep away from bike carbs. also ive seen in a forsale ad a inlet manifold for a golf. it says it would fit most 8 valve vw's wouldnt the polo head be different? cheers for any help you can offer guys, its much appriciated ;D Dan

AFAIK carbs & throttle bodies (and presumably the manifolds) are interchangeable between Golfs & Polos of similar age. It'd need a bit of tweaking though. Try asking on Polo3 - pretty sure a few on there are running Webers.

Doesnt formel E just mean that the engine cuts out when you are stationary and starts again when you let the clutch out, like a lot of manufacturers are doing now?. Pretty sure the carbs would be interchangeable but what about fitting a 1300 from a polo ranger or something, lots more power for pennies, then weber that, just a thought like.

If it's a mk2 or 3 Polo, the common 40 manifolds will fit. There's a few different suppliers. The 1.0 head has slightly smaller ports than the 1.3 polo head.

formal E was a 4th gear that gave you more mpg. (E being economy) the ssa switch that was an accessory did the cut out thing. and this ones a 1100 high compression so not sure on the head yet. I'm guessing the external layout is the same (it sure looks it) but the valves maybe flatter to the pistons? btw just incase guys its not a 1043 (1.0) or 1300cc its the lesser know inbetweeny! oh formal E also gave you shift light and mpg guage!! (options!)

Are you looking for a carb to work with a turbo or are you looking for a carb to give the 1100 more go? Metro turbo carbs could be used,What boost are you looking to use aswell? If you want to know more about tuning with turbo a book i have found useful is "Maximum boost" by a guy called Corky Bell,ISBN 0-8376-0160-6. Well worth a read.

any reason you need to fit twin carbs? has the engine been tuned beyond the limit of the standard one to keep up?
Its a bit of a myth that more carb will give more power on every engine, i don't know polo engines specifically but if the engine cant make use of the extra air and fuel all you'll do is add weight, complication, higher fuel bills and more routine maintenance, of course some people think just the noise is worth all that.

Volvo back as my main squeeze, more boost and some interior goodies on the way.

not sure yet, just looking to find some ideas realy. its a bit of a toss up between turbo and n/a I'm leaning toward n/a realy . but not sure on carb. i like the idea of twins for the looks and the noise. and hopeflly the grunt. but i hate bike carbs. its like a massive thing in the vw scene to have bike carbs. id prefer to concentrate on what i want and the retro scene as a whole rather than follow a crowd, i.e id like to use some J influence on the car too.
