Well, I like them, which is just as well, 'cos I've gone out and bought one (ducks to avoid flying objects). My circumstances dictate that I need a modern car as daily transport, and my Octavia has proved to be far less dependable than the £500 Sierra that preceded it.
OK it ain't a rod, classic or Retro car, I just see it as a modern car with interesting styling, so I'm resisting the temptation to flame it or try to make it look like a rod. I see it more as a modern equivalent of something like a SAAB 96, individual, a bit left-field, and with the local dealer offering £2000 off list price, bloody good value as new cars go.
I always said I'd never buy a new car, but I look at it like this:- The finance is only £50 a month more than I'm paying on the Octavia (albeit over a longer period), and for that I get a 3-year warranty, and more time/money to get stuck into the Minor. The Octavia was soaking up enough of both to keep me out of the garage.

A good idea in a way, but when you get up close you start to pick out tacky features. There's one on my street and it has some kind of stock chrome wheels which look really, really awful. Like the kind you'd get in Halfords 4 for £200 with Barums on.
I don't think the styling goes with the specifications either - I'd be able to live with some of the tackiness if they'd been a little more wild. They should have made it rear wheel drive with a lighter engine and (much) lighter body. It weighs a hefty 1417kg, to put it into perspective the Impreza weighs 1395kg!
They can get rid of the grey plastic bumper ones if they haven't already too!

Yes, I'd be happier if it was RWD, but I like the shape of it, and all I see it as is a modern family car with interesting styling. The one I'm getting (arriving this week) is a 2.4 petrol, and performance is roughly on a par with a 2 litre Sierra. Not blindingly fast, but quite reasonable for a daily driver. And yes, the factory alloys suck. Mine's got steelies with tacky plastic wheel trims, so the wheel trims are coming off. Might put some trim-rings on the black steelies for now, and maybe put a set of minilite-style alloys on it at some point in the future.

Hmmmmmmm. Not my cup of tea at all, but at least it's making an effort to be different. If I was gonna buy a brand new mummywagon I don't think it'd be the Chrysler, I think I'd just resign myself to anonymity and get something like an Espace. But I can't see that scenario occuring ever. I hope.

I admire the fact they tryed to do different styling but ... ...the reliability of them is terrible. Chrysler in North America seems to be having the same reputation/image of British Leyland in the 70's (Although I like a lot of Leyland 70's cars : . The amount of my friends who are based in Canada who's Chryslers (they did good deal for Britsh Forces based there a few years back) seem to spend more time in the Repair Shops than on-the-road is shocking !

Agree about new Mini`s - horrible nasty things ...... however, I have to confess to buying this at the weekend In my defence I have to say that it`s the wifes car and it was either that or a PT Cruiser cabrio. She did briefly mention a new Mini cabrio but I quickly talked her out of that

The new beetle cabrio doesn't look to bad (far better than 'tintop' new bettle) because at least hood looks like the old 'karmann' hoods of the original beetle rag tops.
