Trying to think of stuff I could be doing to the V8 whilst waiting for parts.... is it worth porting and polishing the heads? I've never done that before and I'm not sure how much gain there'd be. The heads on the V8 are a pretty good design anyway - the ports are all matched, there aren't any great lumps of metal ruining the flow, etc... But it's free to do! Anyone had any experience of this sort of thing? Massive power gains? Absolutely sod all difference? That sorta thing

just cleaning them up with a dremmel will make them flow better.
Don't try to re-shape, just take the casting marks off em, and make them smooth, leave a machined finish (slight marks) on the inlets, and polish the exhaust ones.
You'll not loose power, you should gain touch, esp if they are rough casting marks on them.

Yeh, don't polish the inlets and don't try and reshape the ports too much if you don't know exactly what your dooing.. otherwise go for it

Great feedback as always fellas, cheers! Yeah I don't really want to screw up the heads - that'd probably mean the end of the engine as I can't afford new heads! The chambers are pretty good - no shrouding around the valves, but a large "squish" area...I guess I should leave that be (although it'd be nice to free up a bit of compression and displacement....)
