Been a while since I've updated this... Got the oil leak sorted with the replacement oil cooler lines - resisted huge temptation to mount them out front Boso style Was having real trouble getting the engine to run smoothly - a lot of rocking, unstable idle and floating revs so ended up backing off all the idle, throttle stop and balance screws and starting again. Got it right this time, idles nicely considering the cams and seems to rev a lot freer ;D Slightly worried about the amount of smoke on start up and through the breather though so did a compression test - no.1 is a couple of bar lower than the rest so there might be a problem there Last week I decided that with the engine idling properly there was nothing major stopping me going for an MOT so booked it in to a place round the corner from the garage so I wouldn't have to drive it too far in traffic (just in case - you know first trip out and all that) Did a pre-mot check this morning to find the wipers and indicators not working - they were fine last time I checked Traced the wiper problem to the wrong fuse being fitted and the indicators to a wire grounding out that shouldn't have been and another loose wire so easily sorted. Told myself it didn't matter if it passed or failed but couldn't help being nervous beforehand but there was nothing to worry about. Didn't pass first time, but all it failed on was one main and one dip not working - after swapping the lights around and disconnecting a few wires it was all sorted and it passed (just an advisory about excessive exhaust noise) ;D and everyone working there seemed to appreciate the work I'd done to it - all of them were under the ramp at one point. Also took off the BGW before the MOT (needed to do some flatting down to the boot lid) and now I'm thinking it doesn't look that bad without it. but still think there's something missing from certain angles - may try making some low rise mounts to get it close to the boot (as suggested a few pages ago) see what that looks like..... Right, off to the post office to get a tax disc......

I remember seeing your slightly modified ;D Manta a few years back on a trip to Lincoln to visit relatives, and I think at Performance Vauxhall at the pod ?Great to see it again on here. Thats fantastic to hear that you've got the MOT ticket once again after all the work you've put in. Bet you must be a bit chuffed. And yeah it looks a bit mean too.

i see what you mean about needing somthing else from some angles... i think its where you have the deep chinspoiler but nothing at the back... either smaller front spoiler or a lil rear one??

I agree, i think it looks better without the spoiler on the back, but probably needs something there to go with the front. maybe something smaller. Well done on getting it passed.

I have always loved the opel manta i like what you have done to the car though the rear spoiler is not my thing and i am not a fan of mat black paint but thats just me the bodkit looks great .I think metalic black or red would be my color choice but thats just my opinion .

hmmmm... thanks, but I still think a journey of over 200miles is bit much for it's shakedown run. Despite getting through the emmissions test I'm still having problems getting the carbs set up properly. Winding out one of the mixture screws I was getting no noticeable change so pulled it right out and something didn't look right, pulled another one to compare the two.... That'll need replacing then. Checked them all and none looked in the best condition. Had a quick drive round town to the only places I could think of that would have weber parts - neither had screws identical to the ones I removed, only shorter ones. one had them as part of a service kit at over £20 each the other had a couple laying about so bought them. After removing the carbs to get out the rest of the broken screw, refitting them and putting the new screws in I'm now thinking the shorter ones are not doing the job, couldn't get the mixture right with them So, just been online and got some right sized ones from www.dellorto.co.uk/ as, despite what I was told this afternoon, there are two lengths of mixture screw on the DCOE.

yeah, still not sure it looks good like that but I think the spoiler gives it a little je ne sais quoi. it's easily removable so somedays I'll roll with it others without

After driving it around town today I'm not so sure it would make the journey down there - engine smokes quite a bit and doesn't realy want to rev and sounds rough. Also ounds like there's bits falling off it all the time as well, not quite sure what's making these noise though, something must be catching - all looks to be intact underneath It needs a spoiler on the back - sitting back at the pub looking at it it seems to be missing something. working on making much lower spoiler mounts, see if that does the trick. and the tailpipe is way too big. but apart from that it held up OK so far - certainly gets some looks from everyone Oh and the mixture screws turned up saturday morning after ordering them friday afternoon, so www.dellorto.co.uk get a big thumbs up from me
