I'm with the RAC, partially because I get a 25% discount every year through work, partially because they cover larger vehicles than the AA as standard (up to 18 foot long).
The AA don't cover you if you have an accident, they charge £106 or something to recover you, not sure if the RAC do the same, haven't needed them yet!
Also, it has to be one of those 2 as I need me and the wife to be covered for whatever we're driving/riding, all the 'cheap' ones cover the vehicle and not the person!

Cheers. I used to be with the RAC and found the cover for any vehicle really usefull or at least, all my mates who used my policy to get their car home found it usefull.
Since I got recovery on my classics policy I havent had to buy it so was wondering if the big guys were still the best.

will be going over to the AA next year with the RAC at the mo but had bother with them on a number of occasions this year which is a shame because they have been great in the past but recently they have been awkward when called out ie :wouldn't recover the kadett because a. it was to old for the spec lift trailer in the back of the patrol van and then b. they refused at first to send out a flat bed because the car was lowered took 3 phone calls to finally get them to send the the flatbed without a non members towing fee . they wouldn't recover the van because it doesn't have a spare so that call out ended up being a call to a mobile tire fitter who charged £177 for a budget tire and the rac patrol basically did nothing except bump up the number of call outs we've used this year . i'm not saying all of them are bad just talking from my own personal experience with them this year

Personally with the rac, used the tesco clubcard vouchers! personal cover for me and the misses with full bells and whistles for about £35 worth of vouchers! Not had to use them with it and hope to keep it that way so I cannot comment on how the behave.

RAC fer 16 years or more!! didnt do AA cause they voted in favour of leg shields on motorbikes Never had a problem, its an hour wait then another for the tow if needed but always done the job, once we came off the bike and he shoved it the back of the van with me holding it in saved the wait ;D Al

no probs with the AA here - got me from portsmouth to north wales when the f100 ate it's gearbox internals, and also were tres helpful in the vosa versus my hillman hunter and 105e towing combo I do have the full whack home start / roadside relay cover though - only cos dad is the full member so I get reduced rate cover for the same household - not sure how much my level of cover would be on my own!! remember, recovery - don't leave home without it!!
- kev ps - also cool that my AA card says I've been a member since I was 5!!!

mmm. maybe I should think about breaking a two decade tradition of relying on luck and my right thumb to get me out of bother. Will the AA/RAC recover a recovery?

To get a standard A40 this low, you'd have to dig a hole to put it in

Unfailingly excellent, and thus far have shown no interest in flogging me unwanted 'financial services'...

I use autoaid breakdown insurance. You breakdown for whatever reason, ring a local garage or recovery service to fix your car or get you home, pay them and get a reciept. Send the receipt off to Autoaid and they send you a cheque for the amount! I rate them very highly but I'm about to make a 3rd claim in 9 or so months so suspect they may kick me out for taking the Michael. They shouldnt do but ive cost them alot of money in recoveries lately. Its just £35 too!

AA all the way, also I designed the racking system in there vans too, didn't get me a discount though.
The one you want is Mondial, they are the silver and red Beemers and Mercs you see dressed up in there respective company logos. The first kit I did for them was for there 'prestigious' customers. VW T5 crew van, kept two seats in the back for the customers, put a full height toolbox by the N/S door, limo tint and carpeted it all. Beats waiting in the rain

I am in the RAC. I don't have home start, just recovery to home. If I have any probs with my car, I just want to get it home so I can sort it. It also helps having a neighbour who is an RAC patrolman... ;D
