Just 2 questions;
1. what is the legal requirement for exhaust loudness for an MOT - i have cut the big Janspeed silencer out of my exhaust so it will only have the tiny cherry bomb back box and my dad recons i wont get it through an MOT. ive not tried it yet as the cars not running.
2. I am going to run the fuel line through the car, can i use normal rubber petrol hose or does it have to be braided/ copper? (its running a mechanical pump so there is no pressure to worry about)
Thank you in advance, PS sprayed the 1st coat of primer on the shuv today plan is to MOT it a week thursday so its still tiuch and go if it will make retro cars, fingers crossed

Have a look on here www.motuk.co.uk/manual/contents.htmThey're a bit vauge with the exhaust noise issue though, think it'll depend on the testers mood. As for your fuel system, as long as theres no leaks and the pipes are all secure you should be ok.

I'd go braided for the fuel line, if not solid pipe, don't want a hole worn in the side

I had a single cherry bomb on the end of an under-axle exhaust a few years back and the tester stuck a floor brush up it to see if there were any baffles. The shaft went in right to the head (that sounds a bit wrong). He wasn't too impressed and told me to get a silencer with baffles. Aaron.

Noise - if the tester fails it and you consider it to be acceptable, then you can challenge it. There is a maximum permissible noise limit for the road that is measured from 1 metre away (can't remember it off the top of my head) but very few MOT stations have the correct test equipment. Your local MOT inspectorate should have the relevant gear, and will test the car for you - if that is the only thing it has failed on, often they will overturn it for you. However, if it is too loud, you may be told you cannot drive it home.... I had this with a Janspeed on an Imp that was failed for noise in the testers view - it was well within limits and so the decision was overturned. Hope that helps

Just cos something is good for you doesn't mean its good for everyone - for example Marmite does not make good Dog Food.
