I thought it was about time I introduced you all to my car, and had some pretty pics of it from a recent seaside trip, so thought it was as good a time as any:
It is a 1979 scirocco Gli in pearl metallic. 89,000 miles (19,000 done by me over last 3 years) I am the 5th owner, and all in all a pretty honest, decent condition car, although is about to have some pretty extensive tender loving care lavished upon it.
In Brecon, some attempts at arty shots
For anyone who doesnt know, the Gli is the same as a Gti, but with a 'luxury' interior. Same 1.6 kjet engine as the 1st Mk1 Golf Gti, but flat velour seats that you fall off when you go round corners enthusiastically!!
For this reason, it now has a cream leather storm interior instead.
It is my daily driver, and I use it for business etc, and very rarely misses a beat. It has however had a difficult year or so, being broken into, driven into the side of, and some d!ck deciding to run over the roof and crack all the paint, bend it and break the seal on the sunroof
Is now undergoing slow surgery to rectify (you may notice the photos are mainly from one side, as that is now the good side!)
Arrival at destination, and seeing an old friend!
The Golf is my Grandads - 44,000 miles ever, 1.5gls auto. When I can lay my hands on some piccies, I will do a thread on his cars, as I think a few people here will be interested. As a teaser, they include a '76 beetle cabrio, with 6 (yes that is right) miles on the clock, a '30 Humber, Riley special, VW T25 double cab he is putting an Audi 5 pot into, '72 bay window pick up.............
As I say, I will give it its own thread!
Some ad-hoc exhaust repairs - Thats me underneath it on our super-dooper homemade ramp, and Grandad 'advising' (Moaning I am doing it wrong!)
Last look at the sea before going home!
At the mo, it is wearing temporary wheels, in-fact I am about to ask for opinions on a new set of wheel-age when I get it sorted and on. They will look great......or curse word!
Has a K&N, Ashley 4-branch manifold and Remus Back box aiding breathing. Also home ported and polished head, and slightly oversize pistons, although not for perormance reasons, it just melted two pistons on the M4 not long after I bought it, so had to rebuild teh engine! Is also lowered 40mm, and unlikely to go any lower as it is a daily.
Hope you like, will update as I do bits and pieces, but slow going at the mo, as only have a public car-park to work in while I am house hunting for somewhere with a Garage.
