Fella a few doors down has a mk2 rocco...Metallic grey Delorean lookylikey thing.
Girlfriend thinks it looks 'hot'...I didn't know she had a penchant for eighties koops.

A Clio against a Corrado, behave... lol. The prices for them are on the floor at the minute with petrol and tax etc. I can't give mine away at £1500.00 (Don't want to but got a house to finish).

I've owned pretty much every model of VW in my life and still believe the Corrado was the best. It started out as a 1.8 16v and had the engine rebuilt to 2.0 by BRM. It was only slightly lowered, but my god it handled well. Very fast car and very easy to maintain/work on.
I would love to have another one eventually, but woul dhave to put the 20vt engine in as so many others have done. Its a relatively simple swap.
By the way, I had mine about 6 years ago and with all the mods, couldn't sell it for £1300. Then one day some daft bint drives into it, damaging the door, and front and rear wing on one side. The insurance company wanted to right it off, which I protested about, so they offered me something called "payment in lieu", which is basically a lump sum to repair the car myself and it wouldn't be written off. I grudgingly expected to be offered about £600, so I accepted. Turns out they gave me £2,000!!!! I then sold the damaged car two weeks later for £1200 to a a mate and came out with £3,200!!!!

A Clio against a Corrado, behave... lol. I had a corrado vr6 in Aqua Blue Pearl just like this. It averaged around 28mpg around town. I had to get rid as I was doing an 80 mile daily commute. I swapped it for a none turbo Renault Laguna Diesel.... It's about the only car I've owned that I pine for on an almost daily basis!!

Seems to be a lot of love for these cars by people who have owned them.
I'm off to view an ideal candidate on saturday afternoon, I'll keep you all posted (Despite the fact it's not really retro).

Corrados and Sciroccos both great cars, really good fun, fairly cheap, reliable (if you get a good one!) and IMO really nice looking cars too. I say do it! Roccos are regarded as the poor relation in a way, because when VW began the Corrado, they priced it well above the scirocco, so they carried on in production for a while as a budget option. Originally the scirocco was dead posh! cost about £6000 in late '70s when you could get a decent semi-detached house for £12,000 In a bit of shameless self promotion, here is my rocco, freshly posted in readers rides for anyone interested in them: retrorides.proboards86.com/index.cgi?board=readersrides&action=display&thread=45446

I used to have a 1.8 16v, cracking car and a set of coilovers and a nice set of 17's. Used to go well as well, but was juicy. Never bettered 30 MPG on a run and that was only on super (used to get 27-28 on 2 star). The 2.0 16v's are suposed to be much better on fuel. The 2.0 8v's seem to be perticually unloved. i also had 2 mk2 roccos as well, and peronally i prefur the rado to them (but then it was in much better condition than either). Also had a Mk2 golf 8v, perfured the 8v engine, but other than that the Rado every time for me The porbs i had with mine was a stupid temp gauge that would read 110 degC after 30 seconds of running (and no oil temp on the MFA), and the power steering pulley seperated. would have another again thats for sure

I've had a Scirocco, and would love a Corrado. A chap at work had one, lovely driving position and beautiful growl from the G60 and stainless pipes. Great driving position too. 'Chargers aren't too expensive to maintain, just bank on £500 rebuild every 60k or so...... other than that just special plugs to worry about.
Then he went and bazzed it up with lexus lights and big wheels, and proceeded to sell it at a loss to buy a Leon Cupra.

I loved my 2ltr 16v corrado, probably the best car I've ever owned. Would love a VR6 one day.....in silver preferably. 20 years old now and they've dated better than most cars of this age imo!

Hmm, you may just have my perfect 'rado there (barring a Storm in that colour I spose) and seems like a reasonable price. If it wasn't for my 60 mile commute I'd be snapping your hand off right now.
