Not really retro but damn I've always wanted one. The Passat is in a sorry state after I decided to prep it for it's MOT. I discovered some pretty nasty rot under the sill covers and to be honest it doesn't look like it's really worth repairing. To that end I'm looking at rolling in a Raddo. Would love a G60 but the costs of purchase and repair when they go wrong puts me right off, a VR6 would be great but my daily commute is 42 miles of stop start traffic and a VR would kill me on fuel costs. That leaves me with 1.8 8 or 16v's or a 2.0 16v which is my preference due to ease of power increase. Keeping it retro I would have considered a Rocco but I've never been keen on the MKII styling and I sure as hell can't afford to buy a MKI which I think is one of THE best lookingVW's ever made. Anyway have some pics! Nick

All my VW loving mates used to bum love corrado's as they supposedly handle really well and and the Vr6's are the fastest thing on earth. I had a go in a few though and I wasn't impressed, my clio used to happily destroy them round bends and in a straight line with 2 less cylinders and about 50bhp less.
Still nice looking cars though imo.

^True but you could always do a dash swap. I think Corrados still look great today. That Bassboy Rocco in your pics always makes me smile though - looks ace.

I had an early Corrado 16v and also a g60 briefly,in all honesty if they've been looked after the 16v is a very capable machine.Mild tuning goes a long way with them.
I also have a garage full of trim bits, panels,a g60 ecu and other related stuff from when we broke the g60 if anyone needs anything for one

I am a bit biased towards Mk2 Sciroccos I admit, but never been particularly impressed by Corrados. Went out in a G60 and was distinctly underwhelmed by the performance/roadholding (though it felt a quality car) Coming back from a show in early hours: 1 x Corrado 2.0 16v 1 X 1.8i 'Rocco Scala (mine, and about on it's last 'legs') 1 x 1.8 early kitless GTI Rocco Leaving in 5th the 'Rado was made to look distinctly ponderous by both 'Roccos, and even through the gears the healthy Rocco had the edge. Plus matey reckons the Rado is a bit thirsty. Mk2? Have a couple of piccies of one of mine: (admitedly this one has got the plastic) And one of a mates:

To be honest,I always found my mk2 Golfs handled better,it wasn't too bad but wasn't gonna set the world on fire. Having said that the driving position was fantastique (especially if you have heated electric leather Recaro's )

It's a very pretty car for sure but they always seem like they are a lot of money for what is basically a MKII Golf in a pretty dress. Most of the ones at the bottom end of the market are ratty sheds in white.

Really like the rados... crazy mate who is nuts about vw has got a mint black 16v one. Fully sorted suspension, handles like a dream. Remember him taking the pee out of a Focus RS cos the guy bottled out from taking a roundabout at the same speed as him... ;D
we got seriously destroyed on the dual carriageway straight after that though...

Are you committed to having another VW? Personally can't see why a Corrado scores over a Golf. But then I nearly bought a Metro, so opinions probably to be taken with salt. Pinch? Pah - anyone got a spoon?

SOme interesting thoughts foolks, cheers.
Peel: Raddo over Golf because, well I've never had one! I really loved em when they came out in 88 and nearly got my Dad to get one as a company car but he opted for a BX19 GTi instead (which was also a damn cool car).
The one I'm looking at comes with 12 months MOT and has had all the niggly things that go wrong with them done recently so should give me a years decent motoring and allow me to concerntrate on getting the wedge back on the road and looking good.

Anything that ends up with the wedge back on the road and looking good is a mighty fine choice in my eyes!

I always thought roccos were poor relations in the vw stable? mk1's are faster than a mk1 golf gti (lighter too), my mate keith (get your lurking ass on here!) has 7 mk1's. becasue 1) he loves them, and 2) they've been almost given to him as they weren't worth anything. corrados are ok, but a rocco beats one hands down and is well worth any extra.
