Nice stuff, like the sled especially. D'you trace over photos, or do vectors from scratch? I've never tried anything like that and always admired that type of work. (I'm a web designer/developer so go imagery but not much art-like)

Nice stuff, like the sled especially. D'you trace over photos, or do vectors from scratch? I've never tried anything like that and always admired that type of work. (I'm a web designer/developer so go imagery but not much art-like) so far i have just been tracing from photos but I'm trying to get my scanner to talk to my laptop so i can start colouring my own sketches. wowzers your cartooning is hella! that first one looks wicked, especially if you did it in mspaint? you should get on deviantart mate, you would love it. didnt do it in paint, i just used the pencil tool, it was before i learnt how to use paths which is what i use now. ill check that site out tho cheers you pics look wicked, i love the skulls I love that Karmann Ghia. What software did you use to create this and how did you do it? Would really love to do one for my splitty. i use GIMP, its similar to photoshop but free, i think alot use illustrator aswell but I'm yet to have a go with that www.gimp.org/to put it simply, you copy a photo into gimp, then put a transparent layer over that, then trace a part of the car (i usually start with the body) fill with colour and carry on untill the whole car is done, then i add high lights/low lights by blurring white or black lines or shapes depending on whats needed really. www.digimods.co.uk/tutorials/tutorials.htmi used this guide at first, its for photoshop but gimp has nearly all the same stuff so works for both. once you know how gimp works and how to use layers and paths then you've cracked it really its just glorified tracing at the end of the day lol cheers for you comments guys, always good to have some feedback

Those are great...are you using the oval tool (or similar) for the wheels or just really short lines?

Those are great...are you using the oval tool (or similar) for the wheels or just really short lines? i try to use ovals as much as poss cos u just cant get em right otherwise if i can get the usual oval tool to fit near enough then i just use that as normal. if its difficult shape to follow what i tend to do is, using a solid black oval, make it slightly transparent, then, using a perspective tool i pull the oval to match the shape of the rim, then with a colour selection tool, click the oval and create a path from that selection. once ive got the path i just form a line to that path and wa la does that make sense rmad??

Oooh I like this thread! Been doing stuff like this for aaages, I'm not going to post everything I've done, because that would kill anyones internets. But here's a selection of faves. I use Photoshop, in conjunction with a Wacom pen tablet for some stuff. This is my most recent, its a Kamaz truck, which I've.. modified XD img370.imageshack.us/img370/1160/kamazbrarmytoonfinaldz5.jpg[/imgPen tool tomfoolery in the form of a Capri This isn't a fave, but its the only toon (and a half arsed one at that) og the Bluebird img413.imageshack.us/img413/4743/bluebirdtoonnc3.jpg[/imgBeetle with a bit of a led-sled idea going. Paints my creation too. And, not of a car theme, but, a pic of me! And no, I'm not that yellow, I shoulda fixed that. Plenty more, but that would take ages to find stuff. Its all on my deviantART anyway. Half of my text and pics aren't appearing :S

I was looking at getting a Wacom tablet (probably a Bamboo Fun A6), how do you get on with yours? Your pictures certainly make it seem a worthwhile investment.

I've got the Wacom Volito 2, a model which is no longer available I beleive, which I picked up from PC World for £40. At first I thought it would be hard, but I use it for such a lot of things, the stuff you've seen which is purely Photoshop, I start with a base image for line tracing, but the colouring styles my own, the Kamaz was used for reference, but the stuff like the winch, guns and background is my own creation. I also use it for colouring in drawings that I've done freehand with pencil and paper. And no, the pic of me is not altered colour wise, my hair really was half red half black Here's a couple more, which is done with pen tool and Photoshop, extra bits made up by me. Pen tool tomfoolery in the form of a Capri Beetle with a bit of a led-sled idea going. Paints my creation too. Those two were the ones that for some reason wouldn't show up in the other post.

awoo, love that first pic in B/W with the colourful swirls, is there an online tutorial somewhere cos i'd love to do stuff like that that one i black and whited it up and burnt the edges then used flares and pen tool to make the light spots. the lines are with stroked paths. covered with some colour gradients and duplicated set the layers to soft and linear light or something like that. see www.hellocolor.com or www.thehejz.com to get some hardcore inspiration add me on msn thecrypt100@hotmail.com ill talk you through it if you like. Wacom tablet ftw mine was about £80 in pc world its pretty damn good.
